Made this a while ago as a response to the incredible film Devotion, but sadly I completely forgot to post it. Better late than never.

Jesse Leroy Brown was the first African American Naval aviator, and subsequently the first African American Naval Officer to be killed in the Korean war.

On December 4th 1950, Ensign Jesse Brown was shot down behind enemy lines, where in the crash he became trapped within the wreckage unable to escape his cockpit.
His Wingman Lieutenant Thomas Hudner, a white man, Willingly scuttled his aircraft in an attempt to get to Brown and rescue him. Sadly Brown would succumb to his injuries.

For His outstanding character, and his devoted service, Brown earned The distinguished flying cross.
Thomas Hudner, for his selfless action was awarded the Medal Of Honor, though maintained to the day he died, The medal was not his to hold alone.
