She was one of those early days ponies that didn't appear in the later episodes. She shows up in the opening sequence of the TV special, Escape from Catrina. I'm sure there was a toy as well, but don't ask me about those. I never had the toys. XD

I absolutely adore this series you've done, I may not have grown up with the gen1 ponies but seeing them in the modern look is fantastic. You've done a great job adapting them to modern times all while maintaining the character's essence

Thanks! I appreciate that.
Originally, I had more pages planned too, but I got all the big names I wanted. I'm sure I'll get to the rest eventually. XD

I don't know if anyone asked this, but, why does Sweet Stuff's eyes look like gemstones, as compared to the other ponies?

The pupils are a bit too big to the point I can't see the eye colors that much. Other than that the shading is wonderfuL! love the expressive colors

I really like these sheets - it's a very nice reference for the many G1 ponies, and drawn in G4's style, too! That being said, I think there are a few still missing - I can't find Majesty, for instance.
It's also making me want to try and get into G1, at least the initial movie. You're not the only fan to like G1, of course, and sometimes writers or artists (like in their art describing Equestria's history) reference it.

Yeah..... I really need to get back into these. Majesty was on my list. I was going to do a page dedicated to the Princess Ponies, and lump Majesty in with them.
I'm glad my G1 pages are inspiring people to explore MLP's origins. My headcanon has it that G1 is the untold "ancient history" of Equestria. ^_^

I really like the way you drew the ponies On these three sheets, that would be cool if you drew another one about the princesses including Queen Majesty!

EbonyManta In reply to Starbat [2017-04-17 20:34:06 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes - I'd probably want to imagine G1 as some sort of distant past as well. I rather enjoy thinking about what happened in the time before Celestia and Luna, a period I like to refer to as the "Dark History" (given it had such incidents as Wendigos feeding off pony strife and hatred and nearly freezing them all). As I mentioned, references G1 in some of his artcanon for Equestria's past... I'm sure it differs from actual G1 quite a bit, but check him out if you like.
Anyway, you mentioned "A Mighty Demon Hunter Grooms Some Ponies." I actually encountered that while browsing TVTropes.org, and the concept interested me, though something I found while I was reading about it put me off... and I can't even clearly recall what. Something about Megan winding up really jaded and a bit misandric since G1, if I recall correctly, but I'm curious how the magic of friendship will affect her in such a case...

Well, the show will end sooner or later, and once it does, any popular "headcanon" that is not contradicted by the show canon will become more solid. ;D
Yes, Megan is a bit "jaded" in that story. However, I found it acceptable because the story retained her fundamental care and devotion to the ponies. It just came in the form of a bit more hostility toward "threats" to the ponies, as well as some degree of cynicism due to some of her life experiences after the "canonical" G1 events. Megan grown up into an "angsty teenager" works well enough in my mind. I don't mind a character deviating from what is strictly established in canon, as long as it flows well with the character and thus feels genuine.
The one major problem I have with this story is its portrayal of Wind Whistler's character. She is presented as a truly cold, calculating, and corruptible character, that ultimately becomes the villain. That I find truly problematic, because it directly contradicts WW's good nature and devotion to her friends, as established in canon, as well as directly contradicting the message of her best episode, Crunch the Rockdog. The author writes her as exactly the kind of cold, logical monster that the other ponies accuse her of being in that episode. And the message is Supposed to be that that's not true.
The author had some of his own ideas about religion and secular philosophy, and he wanted to use WW as a vehicle to communicate his ideas and conclusions. But even if you knew NOTHING about WW from the start, she still comes across as a preposterous character, with how many times she flip flops in her position, and rapidly transitions to outright tyrant. This is because the author is trying to cram the entire history of secular philosophy's "degeneration" into a single character arc. And that just doesn't work. Obviously, it's the prerogative of the author/artist to insert whatever message inspires them, but I didn't appreciate how he had to eviscerate WW's character to do it.
But if you're willing to look past that, it's still a fun and interesting story. It was enough to inspire me to make all this fanart for it. XD

...Seems like the biggest turnoff to me would be, from the sound of it, the author using a character as a vehicle for their own philosophical opinion to the point they mangle the character... and from the sound of it, creating a strawman of whatever they were trying to criticize. That's something I likely wouldn't tolerate even if I actually agreed with them, and if they're talking about secularism "degenerating" I likely won't. I'd have to deal with a bad portrayal of a character who got twisted just to serve as a forced message, while trying to pick apart the flaws of their argument.

Sounds like an interesting project, and I'd definitely read it... though, was Wind Whistler becoming a villain that important to the plotline?

Starbat In reply to EbonyManta [2017-04-19 22:17:48 +0000 UTC]
The author also left the story on a bit of a cliffhanger. So the plan also included writing out a kind of "final act", where the REAL villain is vanquished. For my plan to work, Wind Whistler still ends up a minor villain. But she gets a redemption by the end.
If I ever return to this project, I will consider if my original plan requires an overhaul, which might enable me to forego the harsh treatment of WW entirely... We'll see.

I'm actually interested how MD fits in your headcannon now that theres a G4 Moondancer. To me, heres how i view it.
Moondancer The 1st ( The original G1 who is white with red and purple hair)
Moondancer the 2nd ( Baby Moondancer, with Pink and Purple hair, and White body)
Moondancer the Third ( FiM Moondancer, With Violet, Purple, Red and Yellow Body)

Hi!
My headcanon is founded on a certain fanfiction, "A Mighty Demon Slayer Grooms some ponies", by DGDDavidson, which is a G1/G4 crossover.
In that fanfiction, the Ponyland and the events of G1 are the ancient history of modern (G4) Equestria, separated by about 2500 years, preceding Celestia and Luna, and even preceding the events depicted in the Hearth's Warming Eve episode. I like that idea because, as a long-time fan of G1, I like to think of both worlds being a part of the same overall history or narrative that are causally linked together.
Therefore, I regard G1 characters who have been "brought back" in this way, to be either the genetic ancestors or the "past lives" of their G4 counterparts. Scorpan, Tirek and the Smooze are a little more difficult to square away in that way, but that's the basic idea.
But basically all that means is that they are Different characters from Different times, who just happen to share the same names and similar colors. G1 Applejack will always be a different character from G4 Applejack, for instance, with unique personality traits and motivations. Same with Twilight. And now, same with Moondancer.
What do you think?

Come to think of it, what even is G2? I've heard of G1, G3, G4 (FiM), and even G1.5 and G3.5 (which I formally apologize for mentioning), but no one ever seems to talk about G2 or 2.5. Do they just not exist, and skipping a number is just for chronological sense (G1=1980's, "G2"=1990's, G3=2000's, G4=2010's)? Was G2 just a direct reboot/continuation of G1? Or was it just that it was kind of "meh", so no one ever sees anything worth talking about in there? Or some combination of the aforementioned reasons? I'm just curious, and you seem to know the franchise better than I do.

"Technically, this is not her canonical name, but I think it sounds better to give her a unique "last" name to easily distinguish her from Twilight Sparkle."
It also helps distinguish her from the other G1 Twilight (SS Twilight) the Pegasus (who also appeared in the cartoon). And like Twilight the unicorn's symbol (purple stars), Twilight the pegasus' symbol (a lit candle) has very little to do with her name or a specific power.
Whereas "Twilight Mist" holds suits her more and somewhat is more meaningful.

Oh, okay. I'm guessing Cotton Candy is on your list because she's a background pony in the original pilot with Tirek, right?
If that's the case, what is your position on Queen Majesty? You know, the super powerful unicorn that appears in the G1 comics?

As for Majesty, I find her intriguing and she does appear in the fanfiction briefly. My plan is to do a page on the princess ponies, and Majesty will be among them.

Majesty is incredibly powerful in the comics. She turns her enemies to stone, or encases them in a snow globe for eternity...
She also wears golden horseshoes just like Mimic... I always wondered if that meant that Mimic and Majesty are related.

It could simply mean that they are both ponies that came from the distant land of "Argyte", and were not created by magic, like most of the other G1 ponies.
I do intend to do justice to Majesty's "majesty". XD
I may have to review those old comics...
