The EASA X-02N Sea Wyvern s an all-weather carrier-based air superiority fighter and multirole fighter, derived from the X-02S. Compared with the X-02, the X-02N has a larger new strengthened upwards foldable wingtip sections, for more weapon and maneuverability at low speeds. With plans to retire the older X-02 once they reach the end of their service life, the Kriegsland Navy ordered the X-02N as a replacement in 2022.

Design

In 2020, EASA developed a modernized X-02S to respond orders from the Kriegsland Navy. EASA incorporated a reinforced structure of the wings. The leading edge slats, flaperons and other control surfaces are enlarged to provide increased lift and maneuverability at low speeds, although the wingspan remains unchanged. The wings feature double-slotted flaps and outboard drooping ailerons; in total, the refinements enlarge the wing area by 10–15%. The wings are modified for folding upwards to increased the number of aircraft weapon payloads and fuel capacity, also maximize the carrier operations can accommodate and to allow ease of movement on deck. Major upgrades to the aircraft included more powerful turbofan engines and a larger weapons carriage; upgrades to the radar and weapons also applied.

Compared with the original X-02S, the X-02N features larger wings with foldable wingtip sections, larger control surfaces for improved low-speed control, stronger landing gear for the stresses of carrier arrested landings, and a stronger tail hook for use with carrier arrestor cables. The larger wing area allows for decreased landing speed while increasing both range and payload. The X-02N can fly at speeds as low as 240 km/h (150 mph), carries more air-to-air, air-to-surfaces and air-to-ground munitions than the original X-02S.
