And now some other bad tips on becoming a mediocre artist:
"Don't use other mediums besides a notepad. Why should you get a feel for texture when you can just print it out".
"Draw anime, it's the best".
"Anatomy? Realism? Pfft, I don't need to learn that".
"It's Art because I said it's Art".
"You're just a hater".
"I'm special".
(psst, Art has standards like any other subject. If you can't adjust to them you will never become an actual artist. But at least people like pretty pictures, right?)

I agree! There's nothing wrong with wanting to refine your technique, but some people get so caught up in it that they end up turning art some kind of competition. Why create art if it just stresses you out and makes you angry?

"If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself".
-- Desiderata
I wish I could internalize these words, however...all too often I feel compelled to compare my art to that of everyone else (particularly those who outclass me). And I think it's because I'm looking for redemption in a way that can be quantitatively measured.

Thats a really good quote c:
I'll use it for this week's quote xD
Thanks!
Same here, we should always compare against ourselves instead against others. Thanks for reminding me xD

I wouldn't say that to every artist, true as it is. Because some artists that aren't really that good start to get arrogant and cocky about their art. For everyone's sake so we don't have to take aspirin after every visit to deviantART I hold back on complimenting people to kindly or we might never hear the end of this.
Regardless this is faved.

Yes, but I want my art to be judged. I want to improve!
I already have my own way. I want to be better!

... The stamp is about you judging your own art with others, and that doesnt help. Its trying to say that we should all be happy with our own art style, instead of wishing we had other's styles/ skills etc.
It doesnt mean that its bad to get criitcism or anything.

This is great. And one of the single most important things I learned in college...a professor told me, "There will always be someone better." which is so true. So there's not use getting upset when you see other people's amazing art. Instead, use it as inspiration...and always push yourself to improve.
