Teyla Emmaggan played by Rachell Luttrell from Stargate Atlantis, an awesome TV show that should have never ended.
I've been working on this one for a long time, where I like the shading I didn't do the proportions well, she looks uptight I didn't do the hair/top of head right and she's not looking up or turning her head as much as she was in the reference pic.
I think it does look like her but at the same time looks kind of strange....I really screwed up the clothes. Did a small amount of photoshop editing but just to make the background darker or fix the lighting(stupid scanner).
Please oh perty please tell me what you think, thanks. XD
Should I make the file smaller so its easier to see(though that would loose detail)?

That's great, I could tell who it was straight away 
In this piece, I love the eyes the most I think. You've captured the life in them beautifully, and the whole expression actually. The nose is lovely too, enough definition to capture the shape but soft and smooth enough so it looks natural.
Then one thing I'm unsure of is the background. I do kinda like the flowing marks in it, but then again it might be better with some kind of definition of objects in the darkness if it's not gonna be completely flat. Hmm. I think I like it here.

The background was actually supposed to just be black, pitch black. But my pencils wouldn't behave and I couldn't even photoshop it to make it darker properly. -_- I'm horrible with background but I'll keep that in mind and try to make better backgrounds in the futur. ^.^

You're welcome, just look at your older deviations (which were good), and compare them to these latest ones. You can definitely see the improvement, it's great to see an artist growing like that.
Did you try colouring in different directions over the paper to even out the black more? That can layer it on a bit too thick and make it prone to smudging horribly though '^_^ What I used to do when I did more pencil drawings (a looong time ago!) was put on a faaaairly thick layer for a black background then smudge it around veeeery carefully with my finger for the main part then a rolled up bit of paper for the sharp edges & build up a few layers of that. I'm a bit rusty with the ol' pencil n' paper now though!

Yeah, I love to look at my odler stuff cuz I'm never really satisfied with the newer and I can look at them and go, yeah I could be drawing like that still. XD
No I didn't, when I get it real dark if I smudge it it gets light again and then I have to add another layer, I'm sure I could have done this better but I was so lazy at the end of this drawing I just wanted it to be finished!

It's rare to be pleased with your own work for any artist it seems! It's good to be able to take a step back and appreciate your own stuff as well as being critical.

And though I've never seen Stargate Atlantis and I don't know who this Teyla is, I knew it was her when I saw the thumbnail just because of your older works. So I think this must be a great drawing!

hahahaha, thats cool! You can google Stargate Atlantis, and can probobly find some of the episodes online(youtube-hulu) or reruns on the Sy-Fy(used to be sci-fi) channel. Its an awesome show. XD Thanks!
