Oh there are plenty of obi tying resources online; I'm sure you will get the hang of it. I learned, myself, just by studying illustrations over & over. I also made my own variations to the plump sparrow knot and vertical arrows.
You'll get better in time.. just takes practice! XD

Oh, i've been using ichiroya for years. But i usually use yamatoku --- they are really really good, great prices and fast shipping! [link]
You wont be disappointed.
ties for tying the knot... do you mean koshihimo? the temporary ties, and/or the ones you use to hold up the obi far on the back?
For koshihimo I use this stuff that I get at walmart... its in the quilt /ribbon/curtain tie section on big rolls. I just put super glue on each end to keep it from fraying, and then I cut it to whatever length I need. Because it is really thick/heavy/strong cotton, it will NOT slip. It's plain white, but no one sees your koshihimo anyways!
It works REALLY good for me, and it is CHEAP!
I only have one *real* koshihimo that I received as a *gift* when I ordered a yukata from sakuramarket. I prefer my homemade ones!
For the scarf that is used to cover up the obi makura (pillow) I use regular scarves, like you buy at walmart, or dillards, or that maybe your grandma used 40 years ago. haha. They work just as well. And for obi jime, I don't have any of those that are real either, I just use whatever I have handy XD
