I've been looking so much forward to showing you guys this little painting!
I had a cute little idea one day on one of my many walks. It's been so delightful for me to see all the spring plants and flowers blooming, and the colors inspired me right away.
So here you have it: Freya holding a forthysia branch in her mouth.

It might seem odd to some of you, why the branch has to be in her mouth. The idea is actually based on a psychological study, I've read about. The essence of the study is that making a certain expression with your body, will affect your mood: like holding a pencil (or a branch in this case) will make everything seems a little bit funnier - because you "force" yourself to smile.
With that in mind, my idea was to portray the change of seasons; from winter to spring. But also the symbolism of the seasonal change; throwing your old negative self away to look at a new and hopeful future. It also has a more "practical" meaning; finally throwing away your winter depression until next year.
Anyways, the branch is also quite important: it shows just how "fruitful" smiling is. And then I also wanted to add a touch of magic - it's Freya afterall

For me, this painting was also a great way to get into digital art again. Time and time again I am astonished by how fast I "forget", how I usually draw. Like, I struggled so much with one side of the hair, and then I suddenly remembered how I usually do hair, and the next side was much easier to draw. I wanted the painting to have that painterly feel, but without being too overworked. That was hard for me fulfill, since I really like to polish my art.
