Description

Just finished watching "The Boys" on Amazon last week and it was really good. If you have AmazonPrime and roughly 8 hours of free time, you should defenitely watch it.

So, yeah, since I´m through it now, I simply had to do some fanart, so we have Homelander here.

Mind you, the series has got me thinking. It´s not just like "evil Avengers" or something like that. No, I think it has a far deeper meaning. It´s about moral. And what it means today.

In the series, the superheros aren´t like Captain America or Iron Man, you know - the good people who just want to save the world and do good things and all that. No, they are rich people who work for a huge company. They make tons of money with merchendise and commercials and movies and TV shows and all such stuff. It´s not about helping people anymore, but about making money.

And I think, that´s exactly how it would be if superheros would really exist.

They wouldn´t save the world for free. No, it´s all about money. Everything today is just about hat. Nobody is doing something anymore because he bevlieves it´s the right thing to do or because he has a passion for it or something like that. Everybody does it for the money.

Let´s have a quick example: politics. Politicians make a lot of money with whatever they do. But they don´t really do what´s good for the country or the people living there. No, not anymore. They do what´s good for their bank account. It´s got nothing to do with moral. Nobody really has a moral anymore. Not today anyways. It´s all like: "Who needs moral? There´s money at stake!".

Every day, I see the politicians of my country talk in the news about all those "great things" they want to do for the normal people. They talk and talk and talk, oh, they talk so much, but they don´t SAY anything! It´s all just an endless line of empty words. Just recently, they refused to make environmental protection a law, because they said, it wouldn´t contribute to the environmental protection and the fight against the climate change. But the thing is, it would contribute a lot to it. Because if it would be a law, also they and all those huge companies would have to obey it.

But, that would mean, they would lose money. So better let the normal people pay more taxes on their cars.

Also, they want to make flying a lot less attractive by rising the prices. I wanna see those politicians traveling to all their meetings by train. Something, which defenitely isn´t going to happen.

You see? It´s all about just one thing: money. Money is so much more important than anything else in today´s society. But money defenitely can´t save our planet from global warming and such things. But that´s all politics is about nowadays.

Money shouldn´t be the thing making such decisions. It should be moral.

If people in such powerful positions lose their morals, terrible things can happen. Maybe we don´t have an evil superhero like Homelander who crashes a plane, but we have other people. They can´t shot lasers or fly, but that doesn´t make them less dangerous. Morals are like internal, personal laws. They kinda keep us from doing the wrong things.

If they are gone, what does hold us at bay?

Let´s look back at the series again. The superheros there don´t have morals anymore. I don´t even think they even know what moral means. And let´s be honest: who does today anyways? If I´de ask a random person on the street which has roughly my age (so something around 20) and ask them "What is moral?", they would probably answer something like "Moral is when you´re morally.". That´s because moral doesn´t have a meaning anymore.

In the series, there is a character named Starlight. She is a new superhero, who just joined the team and became part of this huge money-making-machine. In her first interview, she is asked why she wants to be a superhero and she says, that she says: "I want to save the world. I mean, why do you even become part of this buisness if you don´t want to save the world?".

I think this is a very good question. I could also ask: "Why do you even become a politician if you don´t want to help your people and change things for the better?". Well, the answer to that is money. (Shocked gasp) Nobody could have guessed that.

Starlight is confronted with this turth pretty fast after that interview and when she speaks up against it, she has to realize that she even needs to vindicate her morals since they aren´t the things the company wants her to express. Morals just don´t sell. She needs to decide between her morals and her career as a superhero just as politicians seemingly have to decide between their morals and their career as a politician. It´s a decision that shouldn´t be neccessary. Morals should be the foundation of politics. Sadly, reality looks different. Like I said: Morals just don´t sell.

So, what does that show us?

Well, it shows us, that things need to change. Drastically. I understand that money is important to a certain lenght, like for paying your bills and taking care of your familly. But like I said, important things like political decisions about such things like environmental protection shouldn´t be made by money. They should be made by moral. This world needs people who don´t fight only for their own profit, but for the things that are really important. Like for measures to protect the environment or help refugees or homless people.

I´m not saying that nobody has morals anymore. There are plenty of people out there who do, I´m sure of that. But the thing is this: some days ago I was watching the news again and there was a political debate about something that didn´t even need a debate (again) and I was like: "Look at that! They just do whatever they want and what supports their bank account, not what the people need. Nobody has a moral anymore.". And my dad was sitting next to me and said: "I still have a moral.". And I answered "Well, but you don´t have anything to say.".

I know it sounds harsh, but here´s the thing with that. First, I´m a very sarcastic and cynical person, so I just can´t help it. Second, it´s the truth. My dad has still morals. I have still morals. You have still morals. But sadly, none of us has anything to say. So, it basically doesn´t count.

Well, some might say now: "If you don´t like it, then go into politics and change it.". Yeah, I´d do that. But sadly, I can´t. It´s not that easy. The positions with the real power aren´t for normal people like you or me or my dad. No, they more or less get inheritet. If I´d really put my mind to it and start studying political science or law or whatever RIGHT NOW.... I´d never make it even close to the Bundestag (something like Parliament in Germany). Mind you, the average age of the people sitting there is something around 55, so I´d be too young anyways. That´s another point. Many politicians are old. That doesn´t neccessarily mean, that they are bad, but they do decide about the future of people like me. A future they will never experience. But like I said; someone like me - some averrage person who wants to change things - wouldn´t have a chance. My family is neither rich, nor am I related to any high ranking politicians. And those seem to be the things that count to get in the position to change things.

So, no. Sadly, I can´t just go into politics and change things.

At least not I alone.

If things shall change, we all need to change things. Just look at the last vote of the european parliament: the old, conservative parties lost many votes, but are still the strongest in the parliament. This shows that it´ll work, but it isn´t accomplished yet. If people set their mind to it. Especially young people. Even if you´re too young to vote, always think about it: You´re the electorates of tomorrow.

Maybe I´m just an idealistic teenager. Maybe this whole text doesn´t change the mind of anyone. Maybe nobody sees a need to change things in this world. But one already wants to change it. And if only one person reads through this and thinks about it for a few minutes, it has already been a success. Little victories, right? Little victories.

We might not have superpowers like Starlight has, but that doesn´t mean that we are powerless and just need to accept what´s happening in this world. Morals can be our superpower. And ideas. And things we truly believe in. These are the greatest strenghts of all. Money doesn´t save the world. Maybe nothing does. But we can try. And we don´t have to vandicate that. Not if we think it´s the right thing to do.

We´re the people of tomorrow. But if we want to change tomorrow, we have to start today.

Just stay who you are, do what you believe is right and don´t let anyone tell you that´s wrong. Morals are never wrong.

Maybe this will already be enough. But if it isn´t, at least it will be a start.

Thanks for giving this giant wall of text some of your time. Thank you for listening.

A really great image, and I have seen that commercial but I have no wish to watch it.  There is too much of that in real life and I watch stuff to be entertained, you know?  I agree with your assessment.  Money is about power and control and those who have it wish to control those of us, no matter where we live on this earth.  They think it is their right.  The thing that all evil forgets is that they can't escape who they are, at a spirit or soul level.  They don't realize they are just as controlled by their greed for power, as they want to put on us.

Awesome work!  I love it!

Thank you.

I like this kind of connection to reality. When I´m reading a book or watching a movie or series, I like discovering a deeper meaning and a message for the real world behinde it.

Yeah, sadly it is like this. Money seems more important than knowing on which side you are standing. Especially in politics, that can get very dangerous.

I understand exactly what you are saying.  I believe that everything has a message, music, books, movies, poetry, we all have things we want to say and to express to the world, especially we artists.  I always try to see the message in the mess sometimes.   I do a lot of research for self knowledge.  I always want to know the answers to the "why's in life.  So when I relax and do stuff for pleasure, I want it to be easy and something fun and enjoyable, silly and unrealistic even.  Because real life is realistic enough!

It is my pleasure.  It is a very good drawing!

Yeah, the world´s a mess... but hey! At least we´re throwing some color in it.

Thanks.^^
