whoa! That's crazy that you tried to do everything in one layer. It looks awesome and I love the blending effect you have! The hair looks especially flowy. Nice job

if i had to suggest anything, it would be to try to play around with different colors for the shadows, maybe with a warmer tint or bluer tint for variety.

but this is super amazing and opal is one of my favorite characters on SU.

I used the same shading colours in her official art because I didnt wanna choose some bad colours and mess up .w.
I love working in one layer, if you think you can its so much fun because everything blends so nicely, im glad you like it though!!

Opal is beautiful, I love all the gems and fusions really but Opal is def one if my favourites

oh I see! In that case, maybe try experimenting with the colors from screencaps of different scenes. I know that Steven Universe has some really awesome backgrounds and color palettes depending on the mood of the episode. It would be interesting to screencap that and extract the colors from there! idk whatever works for you I guess

Yeah same! except it takes so long for me to shade in one layer and I always accidentally draw over what I wanted to keep orzzz but yeah, I love the blending effect it has

I know right! Opal is just such a perfect blend of Amythest and Pearl and she's so pretty too

Hmm i will try that! especailly if its a themed piece
im kinda bad with pallets anyway, so if i can i always get a pre made one or drop pick colours from a official referance

Uggh i know that feelig, it sucks when you overpaint sections, but if you lay down flats then work it up bit by bit untill its ready, or for some difficult sections, create a new layer, flat it or if nessicary also shade then merge the layers back together then work on blending it in, its what i do for backgrounds or really difficult sections like tattoos or long hair

My favourite fusion has always been Stevonnie just becuse they took too adorable nerds and put them into a giant adorable nerd >w>

haha same! i'm kind of sucky at palettes too, but there's tons of resources out there and ways to eyedrop colors if you look hard enough so I guess that makes up for it for me

ahh yeah that's what I do sometimes. Like I lineart and then do flats on the layer beneath it and then merge all the layers. Once I tried to do everything from start to finish on one layer though... that was a rough time, but a good learning experience.

Omg truuuee! I love Stevonnie, and I love Steven and Connie together too. They're just so sweet and geeky haaa

I work withought lineart, just colours so that might make it a bit easier?? im not sure hehe .w.; lineart really bugs me for colouring, on its own is fine but i cant work with limited lines when colouring, i prefare to be able yo easily alter it and stuff

I really hope that ship canonly sails forever, i just cant deeal

So do you just draw blocks of color and see if you can form shapes out of that? I know a few artists who do that and have always wondered how they do it. That seems super crazy to me.
haha yeah, lineart takes forever. I usually just clean up my sketch so it's a clean sketch but a messy lineart and then go into drawing. yeah that's also something I like about one layer drawings. like literally nothing is permanent. so though things might accidentally erase, you can still fix it really easily

same! they're adorable together

sort of? I have a detailed sketch, swr that on mwdium opacity then create a later underneigh, using it as a gide like to get the blocks of colour into the right shape, then I make shapes and shade from there
its a bit hard to explain but I stream everyday so if you ever wanted to see a better description you could come and watch
in terms of people doing the blocks of colour and shaping them with like, no sketch is amazing to me, I have no idea how they do it al all

oh okay, i guess I kind of get what you mean. Yeah that's sort of similar to what I do, except I don't draw on one layer that often. It's always super cool knowing how other artists go about their art process though.

yeah i know right! how do they know where to put the blocks of color and everything???

yeah I love seeing how other artists put everything together, cus its always unique and sometimes theres good techniques and things

its crazy, they must have a sketch or something to work off

Wow that's a long time to color! It definitely paid off though, I love the flow you've achieved in the hair and the skirt (is that the word for it?) Anyway, lovely piece!
