So, I've just finished watching FMA, the movie, and the OVA. Such wonderful storyline and characters. My three favourites ended up being Roy, Edward, and Hughes. The art was really quite neat, and I've gotten a few ideas off of it. Apologies beforehand for any inaccuracies in the character, I did use reference from google.ca to get the costume and colours right.Anyways, here's Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist. My cel-style is pretty horrid, so I've suplemented with a soft-ish background.
Background and drawing in Open Canvas 4+, colouring in Adobe Photoshop 7.

Lovely rendition of Roy! And the first thing that caught my eye is the background. How can you possibly made backgrounds like that? XD

Thank you! I cheated a lot on the cel-shading and went back to using airbrush/pointy brushes.. So yeah. XD
Anyways, as for the background, it's quite simple- I decided I wanted a gigantic window in there somewhere, and so blocked out a big white shape on that brownish background. Then I went and blocked out other vague shapes of the window frame, swirlies, and arches. I used a darker version and a lighter version of the brown, mixing in yellow as I went. Next came the scale-y type things over top of the smudged yellow. To finish everything, I grabbed the addition layer and highlighted everything to give it some life. The window is dark yellow addition on top of off-white. Then grab a nice small pen, and stick little highlights/details on stuff, and you have a background!

It could be alot better. XD This one took about five hours (mostly fiddling around with a bad drawing), because I'm slow like that.
