Description The only true 6th generation fighter jet to ever see combat. Not a 5.5, or "5+". The F/A-77 was a true 6th generation stealth fighter jet with all the bells and whistles.

Originally designed as part of the United States Airforce Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) initiative, with it's first test flights in the early 2030s.

The F/A-77 was a high-hypersonic, super-cruiser capable, air superiority stealth fighter focusing on Beyond Visual Range (BVR) engagements. Powered by two Pratt and Whitney Rocketdyne SJY-62 scramjet (Supersonic combustion ramjet) engines. She was a powerhouse of technological integration and modularity.

Her large size compared to her predecessor, the F-22 Raptor meant she was able to carry nearly triple the weapons payload, including both air to air, air to ground missiles, guided smart munitions, and even cruise missiles like the AGM-158 family of cruise missiles which could be mounted to detachable external pylons.

Her slim profile and lack of tails made her exceptionally fast and hard to detect with a RADAR cross section (RCS) of only 0.000025 m^2. (about the size of a sugar cube) However, there is a trade off with such a design and that is that she lacked some maneuverability over previous generation fighters. They were, simply put. Not built for close range dogfighting.

She was the first fighter aircraft to come with a high-powered laser weapon missile defense system in the nose in place of a rotary cannon, as well as advanced AI systems which monitored everything from the engines to the RWR. It could mitigate minor issues before the pilot ever knew it was a problem, deploy countermeasures, and even fly the plane itself if it needed. Making the F/A-77 both a drone, and a manned fighter.

The F/A-77 served with the United States Air Force from 2042 all the way to 2099. Had the scramjet engine remained the pinnacle of aircraft propulsion technology, they would have likely served for many decades to come as they were vastly superior to anything else flying at the time.

The image above shows the two-seat F/A-77B variant used with the United States Air Force. The United States Navy had the F/A-77C variant, designed to be launched and recovered by the Ford-class of nuclear supercarriers. There's also the RQ-77 Wingman drone variant which served along side both Navy and Air Force pilots.

The very limited F/A-77A variant was a VTOL version of the jet designed for the United States fleet of amphibious assault ships.  The design simply never lived up to expectations and ran tremendously over-budget, though it did work and over a dozen where procured by the US Navy. It was found that launching by catapult and recovery by hook was simply far more effective, both in cost and complexity.

The Raven was instrumental in the 3rd World War and 2nd American Revolution that coincided with it. After the Russian Federations failed nuclear strike on the US mainland in 2037, F/A-77s saw their first ever active combat deployment alongside many other NATO platforms including the F-22 Raptor and A-10 Warthog.

The stealth Raptors and Ravens fought virtually uncontested against the outdated, soviet-era equipment they'd been put up against. The Russian Federation had exactly 22 of their SU-57 Felon "stealth" fighters at the onset of the conflict. Within 45 minutes, All but two where shot down, and those two where non-functional at the time.

Not a single Raptor or Raven was lost, ever. At least not to enemy fire. Subsequently, the American stealth fighters paved the road for the rest of NATO to roll over the remaining Russian and Chinese forces and their allies in the air with impunity.

After the dust had settled globally, the fight for the homeland still raged between the splintered United States, and the United States Socialist Republic (USSR). Due to the high level of anti-air weapons being distributed during WW3, few aircraft could operate on either side for very long without inevitably being shot down.

The F/A-77 was one of the few that could avoid detection and continue to operate, even in areas with extremely thorough anti-air defenses. During the final battle of the 2nd American Revolution in 2084, the Battle of Washington DC. USSR air defenses proved utterly worthless against Ravens dropping 2000lb JDAMS from 75,0000 feet.

The single largest join special forces operation would take place in the early morning hours of January 17th, 2084 when teir-1 units from the Navy, Army, Air Force, CIA, and Marines retook the White House and Pentagon from USSR forces. Ravens, along side a decent amount of F-22 and F-35s as well as B-1, B-2, and B-21 bombers laid siege to the USSR air defense system around the former US capitol.

It took the stealth fighters less than three hours to totally defeat the air defense network and pave the way for ground troops, as well as more conventional fighters such as the F-15, F-16, F/A-18, and other NATO fighters to flood the skies over the North American east coast and eliminate a multitude of targets from supply depots to troop barracks.

However despite the success of the F/A-77, in 2087 Starlite Aerospace, a division of Starlite Incorporated, a fledgling newcomer in the aerospace field but a name well known in the field of medical prosthetics and advanced AI research released a short, cell phone type video showing a black, triangular craft performing incredible maneuvers.

Many believed they would see the first "7th generation" fighter jet, but instead. The world soon was introduced, not to the next generation of jet fighters, but to the end of the jet engines as a whole. The Starlite Aerospace X-8, also known simply as The Black Widow would soon become known as Humanities 1st generation starfighter.

Powered by a quantum vacuum siphon and propelled by a Moscovium-295 to Livermorium-296 positron induced electromagnetic gravitic drive core. The X-8 Black Widow, and the later production model the F-8 Rapier performed in a way that appeared to violate the laws of physics as they were previously understood.

It could be traveling at extreme hypersonic velocities and turn 180 degrees on a dime, seemingly without loosing any momentum.  It could go from a dead-stop on the ground, to 800,000 feet in seven seconds flat. Giving a maximum apparent velocity of around 75,000 MPH.

It's propulsion system had zero moving parts and though they were more expensive to make, they were so vastly superior that it didn't take long before the jet engine soon went the way of the horse-drawn carriage.

The entire fleet of F/A-77s were quickly phased out and placed into mothball storage. They where eventually sold for scrap. Two examples were saved from the scrap heap and donated to, then preserved by the Smithsonian, and later the transferred to the MIPH museum on Mars where one sits on display in between the F-22 Raptor and one of the original production F-8s.

F/A-77 and Black Widow:

----------------------------------------------------------------

This is a remake of the original post for this plane. I posted the old one before it was done. I also changed the name because I just sort of said "Random fighter name" and picked one from memory, which ended up being "Thuderchief II". The F105 Thundercheif was built by Republic, not Lockheed so I came up with something new. It replaced the Raptor, so Raven.. Why not?
