Description PREVIOUS:

One of the most impressive displays at the museum is the heavy cruiser exhibit. With 3 of the slots rotating regularly so the ships in the orbital exhibit can be seen at ground level. Surrounding the large landing site is a well manicured, semi wooded park with a series of paths winding through it with a primary observation path wrapping around the parameter area that stretches' in 4kms in every direction. Many different species of trees and other plants, some of them quite rare are kept here.

At just under 2500 meters in length, the Syracuse-class TAC is the largest vessel the exhibit can display.  UESN 99510 Fort Knox was retired from service and donated to the museum in 4115 due to sever damage sustained in an accident, rendering it unfit for military service. Now, it can often be found in the same spot at the ground display.

As it's one of the largest vessels the museum has, and happens to be one of the most well known classes of starship anywhere; It makes an excellent scaling device. There are very few people within the Terran Alliance who wouldn't' instantly recognize this ship as a "Terran assault cruiser" or simply a "Terran cruiser"
Every species, friend or foe has had, or currently has more than one of these in orbit over their planet at some point in their recent memory. For the vast majority of people it's become so regular that it's hardly even news anymore.

It's so effective as a scaling device in fact that it's rarely ever moved except during it's yearly flight to orbit and back or when it's necessary for multi-vessel exhibit event.  Historic and iconic vessel from all over the cosmos are kept here, and quite frequently the museum will host events for alien events. Such as the fall of the Hirnot Monarchy. The flagship S-36 (info below) and several other vessels large, pre-FTL Hirnot warships, and one of the Terran destroyers that made first contact are preserved here.

Once per year, the Hirnot celebrate their independence with a week-long festival. The first day of the festival starts at the MIPH heavy cruiser exhibit where S-36 and the other ships are brought down and become the central stage of a immense music festival and party.

In the above image, Fort Knox sits next to a Helarian Ship Builders Co. JTX-90 Advanced Combat Cruiser. The primary combat vessel used by the Voidrunner Republican Navy. Known as the Malcolm Guinness-class Battlecruiser when in use with the VRRN, IGC/UESN reporting name: Squirt.

That particular example was confiscated by the VDF HCC T'hior Morkas from Voidrunner pirates in 3905.
