Description I worked on this sculpture bit by bit in my free time.
It's based off my character: starrypoke.deviantart.com/art/…

I'm quite proud of this one- I think I've improved my sculpting skills since last time I made something like this. These pictures really don't do it justice, it looks a lot better in real life.

Time taken:
Sculpting- about 5 hours
Painting- about 8 hours

Support: Armature Wire
Clay: Super Sculpey (polymer clay)
Paint: Acrylics
Glaze: Spray glaze

This is so cool! Love the paint job (:
Can I ask though, is armature wire a certain kind you have to buy? I would like to do some sculptures standing up, but I can't get anything to hold them up quite right...

Thank you! :3

Yes, armature wire can be bought in most craft stores and online, and they come in different sizes measured in gauges- so the bigger the number the smaller the wire. Since I didn't want to pay shipping for the wire, I looked at Wal-mart and they had some labeled for use in making bracelets, but it was still armature wire so I bought it and used it for this sculpture... I believe it was 16 gauge. I prefer the wire that is less wide since I usually make smaller sculptures. Here's a website where you can buy armature wire in different sizes and lengths: www.misterart.com/sculpting/mo…

Armature wire is very easy to bend using just your hands (especially for thinner wire) and is able to be bent in any way you want. If you wrap it around several times, it creates a very great inner structure, like a skeleton, that can keep your sculptures standing up. I took some pictures of the sculpture's wire structure before I added the sculpey, which I might post to give you an idea on how I did it.
