Description Holy Sathu Commonwealth Hand of War Klath Adra Volarem
Unique Superweapon

The Holy Sathu Commonwealth, led by the Great Sathu Vielkasharn Idorin, wrested control of Andromeda from the Axe-tail First Empire approximately 3,000 years ago (roughly the year 2000 AD). Refer to the Axe-tail Preamble for the Axe-tail perspective. The Sathuans united the galaxy against the star-conquering Axe-tails, and despite major technological disadvantages succeeded in first halting, then reversing the Axe-tail march. They finally landed on the Axe-tail homeworld, Axor Drek, desecrated their temples, took the emperor prisoner and spaced his family before throwing him in a dungeon for the rest of his life. Hundreds of millions of Axe-tail civilians were enslaved or executed, and a formerly great people was reduced to nomadic barbarism and scattered throughout the ruins of their former empire. In later times, the Axe-tails would refer to this as the War of Retribution, for they believed the gods had cursed them for their crimes.

In the aftermath of victory, the Great Sathu declared himself sole ruler of the galaxy. His former allies quickly discovered that by defeating the Axe-tails, they had merely jumped from the crucible into the furnace. To cement his grip on the galaxy, the Sathuan high command, the Hand of War, built twelve different superweapons of varying magnitudes.

Eight of these weapons were eventually destroyed when the rest of Andromeda's cultures, spearheaded by the newly hyperspace-capable Ganba, rose up against the Sathuans five hundred years later. As the Axe-tail Star Empire began to regain its prominence following Ra'kor and Ravirr's Great Crusade 1,500 years after the uprising, the Axe-tail Imperial Starfleet discovered three more in their space and demolished them so they couldn't be used. But the last and most terrible, the so-called "Starbuster," could not be found.

The Starbuster, Dakh'ral Aur Mazda in Axorian, Sla'shel'vatero Ra Ken in Klavarese, is a 25-kilometer space station designed to destroy an entire star system by triggering a supernova in its sun. It does this by creating a dimensional breach within the star, thereby jumping part of its mass into hyperspace and disrupting the equilibrium between the nuclear fusion forces and the star's gravity, which results in a supernova. It can reach from its location in deep space outside the uninhabited Avril System to anywhere in the Andromeda Galaxy (though the Milky Way is beyond its range).

The Starbuster has been inactive since the collapse of the Commonwealth. It went unnoticed for all that time until its accidental discovery by a Galactic patrol in 986 GSD. Since then the station has been the subject of extensive scientific study. Recently, however, a small G2-class star in the P2 star cluster exploded without warning, billions of years before it would ever have died on its own (and then only by first becoming a red giant, then a white dwarf).

This is where EVN:UGF's Starbuster sideplot picks up. The player's assignment is to first permanently disable or destroy the reactivated Starbuster (requires anti-planet weaponry like the photon beam or Devastator MIRV) before it can be used to destroy any inhabited systems, then investigate and determine how and by whom the weapon was remotely reactivated.

This storyline is accessible to a player in the Klavarese, Ganba, Axe-tail, or Galactic mission strings, following promotion to the rank of UGN Captain or equivalent.

The concept of destroying a star by removing part of its mass first appeared in an episode of Stargate: SG-1, "Exodus". In that episode, the SG-1 team dialed a gate address known to lead into a black hole, then ejected the gate into the star. The resulting explosion consumed an entire Goa'uld fleet, and the rest of the uninhabited star system.

No, but I hear that a lot.  Google Sketchup, kitbashed from a blocky parts kit.

Glad you like it!

I actually "forked" this design halfway through. The primary hull became part of the Saladin-class destroyer. You can see the similarities if you look close.

Comrade, if this is supposed to be a game please tell me when there's a release date or a demo. Really sounds like you thought this thoroughly out. Doesn't sound half-cocked and quarter baked like some of my plans. I applaud you, comrade. I can dig it. Very much.

Will do.

This is a mod for an older PC/Mac computer game called Escape Velocity: Nova. It's distributed as shareware from Ambrosia Software (AmbrosiaSW.com).

I don't have a release date set, mainly because I'm the only person working on the mod (with occasional contributions from others on the boards). But yeah, keep an eye on my journal entries (and maybe on the Ambrosia boards topic [link] ) and you'll stay up to date.
