I figured since I have seen several people make these that I would toy with the idea. I have two nephews and will probably make them each a pair with something on it. So I had to make a practice run on a pair of mine. The left shoe will be that of F-I-R-E !!! RAWRRR!!!Enjoy
I am hoping I got it in the right category.

sorry for the delay in reply....I just used paint markers over a clear acrylic gesso base.

And won't the gesso crack eventually??? Or it isn't that thick...

It is a really thin layer. Just thick enough to keep the paint markers from bleeding through. I didn't think about this before but you could probably thin it out even more with some gel medium. I will have to give that a try next pair I do. I will definitely note how it goes.
