Question: How do you see that this adult bird is a female. I can never see the difference between female and male in these beautiful birds.

This is a very good question. Male and female of this species look almost the same. I assumed that this was a female, basing on the behavior of this grebe family consisting of one adult and four young birds. This photo is only one of a series of some 40-50 shots I made on this lucky day.
