As was tradition, Stary traveled to Ireland to visit her grandfather's side of the family for her and Alix's birthdays (As they were only about a month apart.) The sisters' small journey brought them underhill, with the High Sidhe. Their grandfather greeted them both warmly, and welcomed them into the court as he always did. He held a feast for them, and they stayed, typically, for two weeks, at the end of which they would receive their presents from him. This Alix and Stary were turning twenty-three and twenty-two, respectively.

The two weeks went by in a rather thorough haze of faerie wine and celebrations, but eventually, it came time for them to go home. The sisters prepared to leave, and to receive their gifts on the day that they left. Alix was first; Several bolts of woven faerie silk and the appropriate thread to sew them.

Stary was gifted a horse; a beautiful blend of black and brown with a white mane and tail, and markings trailing down it's back. It had a braided beard, and a pierced left ear. It had no bridle on, and stood beside it's apparent handler without fuss.

She was told it was a rare breed of horse that the faerie and nomadic folk had valued and kept secret for many, many years; a Shereuli. Stary approached the creature, and was presented a choice of colorful ribbons to decorate the stallion with. The first ribbon she'd have to place, however, would connect the two piercings on his left ear. After a long moment of placing her hand on the horse's neck, she chose to adorn him in lilac ribbons, to match his deep purple eyes.

The stallion lowered his head, allowing her to slip the pale purple ribbon between the gold piercings. Thereafter, she decorated him with jingling faerie coins and more ribbons, woven together in a loose halter. She hung a string of purple beads from just behind his left ear, and tied a scarf of faerie silk, also adorned in golden coins, around his neck. Finally, she dropped a brass key around his neck, on a pale blue ribbon. The stallion remained perfectly still and calm throughout the whole process. When she was done, he lifted his head and regarded her calmly.

"Excellent. And now, to keep him, you must proceed on a journey with him. And, Alixandra..." Their grandfather smiled wryly at them, "In order to keep that silk... you, too, have a challenge you must complete." Without further warning, the gate opened up and separated them in the familiar up-down vertigo of gate travel. When her head stopped spinning, Stary took stock of her surroundings. She and her new stallion were standing in the middle of a forest, not a sign of civilization anywhere. Stary sighed, and, with the remaining lilac ribbon and faerie coins, created adornments for herself-- a collar, and decorative drapes from a belt she slung over her shoulder. The young woman sighed, and stood beside her steed.

"Well... I guess we'd better get moving. We have to find whatever grandpa sent us here for... Let's get going." She looked up into his violet eyes, and he huffed softly at her, almost in exasperation.

Wheee~ So I won a Shereuli from *evil-firewolf and I had ORIGINALLY intended to apply for the adoptables she had up not long ago.

So I dug this sketch up since I had it laying around, and finished it. He will be a part of my HARPG stables when I get around to finishing this little short story and draw him a full body ref.

His name is Siog Bronntanas, (Which is pronounced "Shig Bron-Chan-ash," I think...) Gaelic for "Faerie Gift"

He's gorgeouuuss *3* I'm so happy to have him.
