Description

This is the first part of Adventures in Johto. This is a sequel to the events of Adventures in Hoenn and Adventures in Kanto. If you have not read both of those stories, I highly suggest you do so before you begin to read this one. The links to both of those can be found in the description below. If you already have read AiH and AiK, then I hope you enjoy the new adventure: Adventures in Johto.

May and I had taken a ferry from Slateport City to New Bark Town, which had a very small port. According to Professor Birch, this town was the home of Professor Elm, who would get us started in the region.

It was a simple enough task finding the Elm Lab, New Bark Town isn’t much bigger than Littleroot Town, and as such does not have many buildings of significant size. When we got there, I knocked on the door.

“Come on in,” a voice called from inside. May and I entered.

Elm’s Laboratory reminded me of Professor Birch’s. I suppose when you are doing similar work, you need similar facilities.

“I’m back here,” the same voice said as we made our way through the lab, “the last door on your right.”

When we entered the aforementioned room, we saw two individuals: the first, a tall, thin man with short brown hair, glasses, and a white lab coat; the other, shorter, with green hair which was slightly spiked. The second guy reminded me of Wally a little bit, but seemed a little more mature.

“Good to see you have arrived,” the man in the lab coat said, “you must be Saint and May, Professor Birch told me you were coming. I’m Professor Elm, pleased to meet you.”

“Are these the two you were telling me about, professor,” the other man asked.

“Yes. May is the daughter of Professor Birch, and Saint is not only the son of Norman, the Petalburg City Gym Leader, but recently defeated the League Champion in the Hoenn Region.”

“You don’t have to go on like that,” I said, slightly embarrassed, “just doing what comes naturally. But wait, who is this guy?”

“You can call me Leif. I come from the Kanto Region.”

May and I shook Leif’s hand in turn.

“That’s a beautiful necklace,” May said to Leif. Leif immediately took the necklace and hid it back underneath his shirt.

“Well now that we’re all acquainted,” Elm chimed in, “let’s get down to business.

He walked over to the only table in the room. On it sat three Poké Balls.

“I was asked by both Professors Birch and Oak to give you three the basic starting Pokémon of the Johto Region. If you like, I can describe them to you.”

“No need Professor,” I said, “in case you didn’t know, I’m originally from Goldenrod City, and as such already know about the three starter Pokémon, so I can explain them to May and Leif.

I went to the table and tossed one of the Poké Balls, from which appeared a four-legged, green Pokémon with a leaf on its head.

“Ah, a Chikorita, this Grass-type is known for wafting a sweet fragrance from its leaf. Who should take this one?”

“Well I took the Grass-type starter in Hoenn,” May replied, “I would prefer a different type.”

“I also had the Grass-type starter, but in Kanto,” Leif continued, “you should take it, Saint.”

The Chikorita turned to look at me.

“Oh, yes, please pick me;” the Chikorita said in a high-pitched, girly voice, “I’ll be a great Pokémon!”

May, Leif, and I looked at each other.

“Do the Pokémon always talk here, Professor,” Leif asked, “it’s quite unusual in Kanto.”

“I don’t know,” Elm answered, “all of a sudden, all the Pokémon began speaking, not only the Pokémon here, but all the wild Pokémon, too.”

I picked up the Chikorita, “I’ll name you Rose, how about that?” The Chikorita smiled in approval.

The next Poké Ball produced a bipedal, blue Pokémon with scales and a big mouth full of teeth.

“Totodile,” I continued explaining, “This Pokémon is known for its bite, when one gets you in its grip, it’s almost impossible to escape.”

“Can I have this one,” May asked, “I don’t know why, but I like it.”

“Fine by me,” Leif replied, moving over to take the Poke Ball which remained.

“From now on,” May said to her new Pokémon, “I’ll call you Aqua, OK?”

“Sweet,” the male Totodile said, “finally I get to be on an adventure.”

“Good,” Leif said, releasing the final Pokémon, a small cream-and-blue Pokémon with red spots on its back, “that means I have Cyndaquil, who shall be named Arashi!”

The Cyndaquil smiled, but said nothing.

“Guess your Pokémon isn’t much of a talker,” May said, “I’m sure it’s just shy.”

“Don’t worry Arashi, your quietness doesn’t matter, what matters is your heart.”
