Description
We had made it to Olivine City, the main port of the Johto Region, and a stopping point of the famous S.S. Anne. We could see the Glitter Lighthouse, the most important building in the whole city all the way across town. But the only thing on my mind was getting to the Gym so I could earn the next badge. However, before we made it to the Gym, a familiar figure approached us coming up the street in the opposite direction, it was Silver.
“You three again,” he said with disdain, “what are you doing here?”
“What do you think,” I responded, “there’s a Gym here, and I intend to challenge it.”
“So you’ve decided not to heed my warning,” he said, brushing past me, “your funeral.”
“How rude can one person be,” May observed when Silver was out of earshot.
“Don’t worry about him,” I said, “What he thinks doesn’t concern me. C’mon, the Gym is just ahead.”
We soon reached the Gym. The double doors at the entrance opened straight away to a battlefield, a straight-ahead lay-out, just like I like it.
“Hello,” I called, “is anyone here? My name is Saint and I’m here to challenge for a Gym bade.”
“Oh, hello,” greeted a voice coming from the doorway leading from the battlefield to the rest of the building, “You said you’re here for a Gym battle?”
“Yes I am. Is the Gym Leader here?”
The owner of the small voice entered the room. She was brunette, and wore blue jeans and a simple blue shirt. A ying-yang necklace hung around her neck.
“My name is Kendra,” the girl said, “Jasmine, the Gym Leader, is my big sister. And, uh, I’m sorry, but she can’t have battles right now.”
“What do you mean she can’t have battles?”
“Well she’s, uh…”
I could hear a shuffling of feet coming down the hall.
“Kendra,” a weak feminine voice called, “who’s there?”
“It’s nothing, Jasmine,” Kendra insisted, “You should go back to bed.”
“No, no,” Jasmine said, entering the room, “if it’s official Gym business, I have to deal with it.”
I had seen pictures of Jasmine before, but she didn’t look like this. You could tell that she was physically very ill, wrapped in a blanket and couldn’t raise her voice above a loud whisper.
“I’m sorry, Miss Jasmine,” I apologized, “your sister tried to tell me that you couldn’t have battles right now, and now I see why. I hope you feel better soon, I’ll come back then.”
“Wait,” Kendra called, “Jasmine, ask them. Maybe they can help.”
“Oh no, I couldn’t possibly ask them to.”
“Ask us to do what,” Leif inquired.
“Well,” Jasmine explained, “I’m currently suffering from a very severe strain of the flu. Quite powerful medicine is prescribed for such an illness. I had ordered some from the Pharmacy in Cianwood, but there is such turmoil in that city right now that I fear that it cannot be delivered.”
“No sweat then,” I said, “We’ll go to Cianwood and get the medicine for you.”
“I thank you for your offer, but Cianwood is terribly dangerous right now. I don’t want to put you three in harm’s way.”
“Harm’s way is kind of our specialty,” I said a little arrogantly, “if you need that medicine to get well, then you’ll get the medicine.”
“Thank you truly. You don’t know how much I appreciate it. But I must tell you, the ferries are no longer running between Olivine and Cianwood. Are you sure you can get across the ocean on your own?”
“With our Pokémon, we can do anything.”
