Description

On my way down from Mt. Moon and into Cerulean City, I noticed two men, both obviously skilled martial artists, arguing on a hill. I decided to see what they were up to.

“Punching skills are obviously both more effective and more useful!”

“Ha! The ability to use your feet is both more refined and, since it takes longer to master, the one using it is obviously more skilled. Anybody can throw a punch, but it takes a master to throw a kick!”

“But you know as well as I that kicking techniques are less accurate!”

“True, but it is made up for by having more power!”

“Excuse me,” I interrupted, “but what exactly are you two talking about?”

“You see,” the first one said, “we are both masters of Karate. However, while I prefer the techniques of striking with fists, he prefers the techniques of striking with feet. We have spent much time arguing over who has the better technique.”

“Indeed, but we have both succeeded in creating techniques for Pokémon based on our preferred styles.”

“I developed the Mega Punch technique.”

“And I, the Mega Kick technique.”

“Perhaps you have a Pokémon which can learn one of our techniques, than you too can become a master of the hands or feet.”

          “Or,” I puzzled.

“Well naturally,” the kicker went on, “you have to choose one side or the other.”

“That doesn’t make much sense. But I suppose as long as there are people here who can help my Pokémon learn powerful techniques, than I should take advantage of my opportunity.”

“Precisely,” the puncher said, “show us your Pokémon, and we will tell you if any of them can learn a technique.”

“Fine, come on out, Fushi, Kit-Kat, and Ishitu!”

“Oh how unfortunate,” the kicker said, “it seems none of your Pokémon can learn Mega Kick. One does not even have feet to kick with. Most unfortunate for you, as Mega Kick is the more powerful of the attacks.”

“However,” the puncher picked up, “the one with no legs has the arm strength available to learn Mega Punch. It may not be quite as strong, but still packs a wallop, plus it is more accurate. Do you wish for me to teach your Ishitu Mega Punch?”

          “Yes.”

“Very good. You will see, by the time the sun sets, your Ishitu will have mastered Mega Punch.”

And so Ishitu and I spent the rest of the day with the punching master learning the technique.
