Description
“Hello,” I called, entering the Gym, “is anybody here? I’ve come to challenge the Gym Leader!”
“Come in,” a female voice called from deeper in the building, “we’re in the pool!”
I followed the voice until I found the pool the voice meant. An Olympic-sized swimming pool was in front of me, with lanes and a diving board that must have been 30 feet in the air.
“So you’ve come to challenge us,” said a voice, different from the first, “here we are.”
Turning around, I saw three women, one with dyed blue hair, another dyed pink, and the third seemed to be natural blond, they were all of similar height and build, all quite beautiful.
“We are the famous Cerulean City sisters,” the blond explained, “My name is Daisy, and these are my sisters, Violet and Lily. We are the leaders of this Gym. And you are?”
“I’m Leif of Viridian City. What are the rules of this Gym? Please tell me I don’t have to fight all of you.”
“Don’t be silly,” Lily replied, “we rotate who gets to face challengers. Today Daisy will be your opponent.”
“The match will be one-on-one,” Daisy went on, “and will take place in our pool. Are you ready?”
“Yes.”
“Then let’s…”
“Daisy! Violet! Lily! You promised you would play with me!”
All four of us turned to the voice, which belonged to a little red-haired girl.
“We did promise, Misty,” Violet answered, “and we will, but right now we have a challenger.”
“Right,” Daisy said, turning back to me, “As I was saying, let’s begin.”
“This will be a one-on-one match between Cerulean City Gym Leader Daisy and the challenger Leif,” Lily said, acting as judge, “The battle is over when one of the Pokémon cannot continue.”
“Let’s go, Goldeen!”
Goldeen, the Goldfish Pokémon. Its tail fin billows like an elegant ballroom dress, giving it the nickname of the Water Queen.
“You’re up, Fushi!”
“Goldeen, use Horn Attack!”
“Fushi, use Razor Leaf!”
Goldeen sped pretty quickly through the water, swimming in a way so that only its horn was above water. However, Fushi’s attack was strong enough to find its mark, knocking Goldeen out of the water.
“Goldeen is unable to battle, Bulbasaur wins. The victory goes to Leif.”
“What,” I said, perplexed, “Only one attack? I know I have a very good type advantage, but Fushi is not that strong, is he?”
Fushi began glowing.
“Ivysaur!”
Ivysaur, the Seed Pokémon, and the evolved form of Bulbasaur. There is a plant bulb on its back. When it absorbs nutrients, the bulb is said to blossom into a large flower.
“He certainly is,” Daisy remarked, “only strong Pokémon evolve. And for winning, here is your Cascade Badge.”
“Thanks,” I said, taking it, “I’ll be going now.”
…
“Why do you guys always lose,” Misty asked her sisters a little while after I had left, “Even to that girl with the Charmeleon. I thought Water Pokémon were strong against Fire-types.
“Well,” Violet said, trying to answer, “We’re just not great trainers. This Gym has been in our family for generations, and we are the newest holders. Maybe someday you can run the Gym and would make it once again a proud place. Would you like that?”
“I don’t know…”
…
“Somebody update me.”
“Yes boss. Uh, the team at Mt. Moon hasn’t found anything. They are thinking about starting over in another area of the mountain. And they said there was this guy yesterday who was asking a few too many questions.”
“Well I never said uncovering those fossils would happen without patience. And since we missed our opportunity to obtain the Old Amber, it may be quite a while until we can get our hands on an extinct Pokémon.”
“How did your meetings go?”
“Both sides are behind schedule, it’s frustrating. Blaine’s problems are more of a scientific nature, while the team in the south is having a hard time pinpointing exact locations of anything in that blasted jungle. But again, it’s all about patience. It is all about patience. We will succeed, eventually.”
