Description
The sun was bright and high in the sky. Two Iron-clad guards led me to my execution. My hands were tied behind my back with a piece of rope, they weren’t going anywhere.
“Don’t I get a final meal or something,” I joked with the guards. They didn’t laugh.
The chopping block was positioned up on a wooden structure which stood at just below eye-level to the people in the very front row. I was expecting something a little more private, but I guess the king liked viewing the deaths of those he wrongfully prosecuted.
The guards led me up the short flight of wooden stairs between the ground and the scaffold. We passed a man in formal wear that was holding a sheet of paper. We stopped after a few more steps. I looked over and smiled at the black-clothed executioner. He was going to be using a Diamond sword. I wondered to myself if it was mine. I glanced over to the king in his own chair. He was the furthest away, but had the best seat in the house. I didn’t smile at him.
“Ukjent Gunnar,” the man read from the scroll, “has committed the following crimes: murder of a man in the king’s service, and impersonating a nobleman. By order of King Otto V of Aurumium, he is sentenced to have his head cut off.”
The guards pushed me down to my knees. Without resisting, I laid my head on the block, looking straight down to the ground. I closed my eyes, and waited to hear the familiar sound of sword cutting through air.
*WHOOSH*
*SLAP*
I jumped in fright. It had only been a dream. I was still in the dungeon below the castle. A figure stood in front of me, holding a light.
“Be quiet and listen,” the figure said. I recognized Morgan’s voice, “I have a plan to save your neck, but you must listen.”
“I’m listening,” I whispered, “what do I have to do.”
“Absolutely nothing. Don’t resist the guards, whatever they do. Let them take you up to the scaffold; let them rough you down to the block. I promise you won’t die.”
“And why are you helping me, of all people?”
She raised the light a little higher so I could see her face. Her eyes had a kind of Diamond-like shine to them.
“I’ll tell you afterwards,” she said. Then, smiling with her perfect teeth grabbed me by the back of my head and planted a deep kiss on my lips.
