Description

Everything was ready. My armor and sword had been enchanted, and the Nether portal built. The only thing left to do was to step through and find out if all the legends and theories were correct.

“I’ll leave two of the finest Diamond Warriors here,” Morgan assured me, “They will accompany you back to the castle once you have claimed victory.”

“I hope that doesn’t take too long,” I joked. There was no going back now. I stepped through the Nether portal.

There were many works made by artists throughout the years to describe or show what the Nether looked like. A tall task seeing as no human had ever entered the Nether and lived. You do not know how happy I am that I could be the first.

There could not be a place more different than the regular world. The ground I was walking on was a blood-red color with flecks of black. It was not as dark as one might expect, or as it had been presented in books. Above me, on the ceiling of the cave-like structure I found myself in, there were multiple blocks which glowed with a golden light. I decided that if I made it out of here alive, that I would take some of it back with me. There were also multiple lava-falls and lava rivers.

“Dragon,” I called out, “I’m here Dragon. The second coming of Ukjent has arrived to rid the worlds of you once and for all!”

I felt a strong gust of wind coming from ahead of me. Almost sooner than I could react, a blast of fire came my way. I just barely dodged it. Though my armor was especially enchanted to be fire-resistant, I needed to save it for later. When I looked up after my dodge, I saw my foe.

“Hello Ukjent,” the Dragon was talking, “I’ve been waiting for you for many years. I’m glad that the unjust King of Aurumium is no longer insulting my intelligence.”

“I figured out the puzzle, the puzzle of history. Unfortunately for you, that means that you are about to die.”

The Dragon laughed. Fire burst from his muzzle as he did so.

“You can’t kill me, for I cannot be killed.”

“Everything can be killed. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to do it.”

“Mortal human, you know not what you are dealing with. I have never been more powerful than I am right now. Though I commend you on beating back my mob army, I’m afraid you are never seeing your dimension again.”

The Dragon spread his wings and multiple Endermen materialized. I pulled out my bow and one-hit every one of them.

“I figured you would want to fight me yourself. I didn’t expect you to get your lackeys to do your dirty work. You didn’t do that against Varg, did you?”

At the sound of that name, the Dragon flinched a little bit.

“Five hundred years,” the Dragon stuttered, “that’s how long I’ve been banished to this hellish dimension. You don’t know how long I waited for Varg to build up the courage to build another dimensional portal and come after me. You don’t know the rage I felt when I realized that he had long since passed and I would never get the opportunity to wreak my vengeance upon him. However, now that you are here, you will make for a suitable substitute.”

“I know everything about you, Dragon. I know your history and your weaknesses.”

“And I know everything about you. In fact, I do believe that you deserve an explanation. An explanation for why you are here in this world.”

“I am here to rid the world of you.”

    The Dragon smiled.

“That’s what everyone has told you. That’s what all the books point to. That’s the hand fate would play to you. But you are wrong, as wrong as your presumption that I can be killed.”

“Enough of this,” I shouted, firing an arrow aimed between the Dragon’s eyes. The Dragon roasted the arrow easily.

“Straightforward attack, I admire your courage. But you should really hear me out. You see, you have figured everything out except for one thing. You are not the reincarnation of Ukjent. If you were, you would have done something to me by now.”

“Quit with your psychological bullshit! Are we going to do battle or not?”

“Not until I finish my piece. When I have done that, then you can decide whether you want to fight or not. You are not here to defeat me; you are here to release me. You are here to be my commander in the human realm.”

    “That’s a load of crap.”

“Don’t be so hasty. It is not your fault that you are naïve. But it is not your decision what to do. Your fate is already decided. And it is not what you think it is. Like I said, I know everything about you.”
