I was in Camo and she did not have my scent, so she was staring and testing the air. It's impossible to stare one down or hold your breath until they look away. They will see the fog coming out of your mouth.

THey really are sensitive ...makes the shot even more amazing. I got one one night on the way home from work. I was getting on to I95 by my office and on the side of the ramp a doe was standing eating leaves. I pulled over about 100 feet ahead and walked back slowly with the camera up..when I got about 50 feet from her, she casually looked up at me.. I snapped and she went back to eating. I couldnt beleive it.. never saw one so calm!

Sometimes you get lucky......She walked toward me to try to catch my scent, so I got a better shot.

I love the lighting, and how half of her face is dark, and the other half is illuminated by the sun. Where do you go to take all of these beautiful shots?

I work where Grumman used to make F-14's and A-6's. They had to buy alot of land around the base in case of a crash, so there are about 5,000 acres of woodland to hike. The area has alot of wildlife, Deer, Turkey, Fox, Osprey,Geese, Woodchuck, assorted Hawks and Owls. I walk at lunch time and occasionally get lucky.
My favorite haunt is a 3,500 acre Nature Preserve on the Connectquat River. It is rife with history, John Quincy Adams fished there. The Mill was built in 1760 and the Inn was built in 1820. Was owned by Vanderbuilt, Wm Bayard Cutting and the like as a private shooting preserve, but then it was turned over to the state back in the early '70s. Entry by permit only so there are not too many people there.

Can't shoot in the summer because we have a severe tick problem here.

They have excellent senses so when they see something in the distance, they will scent the air to try to identify it. Sometimes if I am doing it right they will move closer to try to scent me. They know I'm there, they just don't know what I am as I wear camoflage and stay to the shadows. I get a close up then.

You are in the presence of God out there. You can feel his closeness. I am in my church, and thanking him every trip for all the beauty in nature.

I love it there........not too many visitors, and so large you can lose yourself. I go far afield to get away from others.

Thank you Jean...........She had spunk. They will stopm their hooves to show anger, and she would stomp and move closer. She didn't have my scent so she did not know what I was. I try to blend into the trees.
