Thanks!  This is oil on hardboard.  The hardboard has about 5 coats of white gesso, then sanded completely smooth to 400 grit wet dry sandpaper.  The first several layers of oil go on very thin, as there's no texture for the paint to stick to.  However patience pays off, and adding layer after layer, the image will seem to glow as light is able to pass through each layer and reflect back off the white gesso.  The paint was mixed with Liquin medium.  I've since stooped using Liquin and now use a medium called Maroger(pronounced mar-o-jay), named after the French curator who discovered it.  It's hard to find, but well worth the effort.  There's a manufacturer in the UK, I believe.

A very fine painting. The little details add to the whole in the most amazing way. Well done!
