...The townsfolk were wary of the old woman who made her home in the cave by the shore... Whisperings of witchcraft, of spells and evil-doings caught quickly on the sea-breeze and nestled in the sharp ears and tight hearts of the small community. Only the lighthousekeeper's daughter, Elsie, knew better.

Although initially startled by the curling tentacles that coiled gently round the hems of the old woman's skirts, and by the inquisitive creatures that shared her home, Elsie soon became accustomed to them, and enjoyed her weekly visits to the cave. She marvelled at the sea-smoothed driftwood shelves, adorned with polished stones, sparkling blue and green sea-glass, shells and drying seaweeds, and kept the resident octopi (octopuses?) out of trouble...
