Description

The Felden-class battleship was designed as an immediate successor to the Feianeth-class, which were built as a relatively quick counter to the rapid buildup of the belligerent Telerenn Parliamentary Navy.  Early on in the development and construction of the Feianeth-class, the Admiralty identified the need for a harder-hitting counterpart with greater speed and protection.  Thus, the Felden-class came into being.

Completed during the closing days of the First Dawn-Telenese War, the Felden-class grew out of concerns for the post-war balance of power- indeed many of the other great naval powers had ramped up their own fleet production, happy to sit back and letting the Imperial Dawn and Telerenn Republic whittle eachother down.  The Admiralty had long-since eschewed the notion of post-war naval parity, and the notion that another major power might take the opportunity to pounce once the bilateral war had ended was not at all far-fetched.  As such, naval supremacy was the order of the day, and a class of ship with greater range, firepower, and speed compared to the Feianeth-class was needed, as well as a complement to the Majesty-class- which, while powerful, could not be everywhere at once.  The first two ships of the planned four, Felden and Feiaden, were in commission just in time to partake in the Burning of Hederedth, like most of the Magisterial battleship fleet, and the class was completed as a whole immediately after the Telenese surrender.

The Felden-class became the one of the cornerstones of the post-war naval buildup, and distinguished themselves in the many conflicts to follow, their firepower and endurance earning their place as a beloved centerpiece of the Magisterial fleet.

Indeed! The most recent 5 ships I've posted (as well as several I've yet to post) began as Springsharp profiles that I then modeled in SketchUp. It's a most useful tool, and admittedly some of the stats- displacement included- I've just consistently forgotten to include in the descriptions.
