Description

The appeal of the Coen Brothers' "Fargo" can be divided into three elements, I believe.

Firstly, the fear of an ordinary person impulsively descending into the world of crime. In other words, the terror that the door to the extraordinary is always right there, and we live without realizing it. However, whether it's COVID-19 or war, one day, suddenly, the ordinary person is involuntarily drawn into it. In the movie, William H. Macy skillfully portrays this role.

Next, there is the presence of terrifying "evil." They lack the conscience of ordinary humans and only think about using and consuming others to survive. The characters portrayed by Peter Stormare and Steve Buscemi in this depiction represent that "evil."

And as the one depicted to save such a tragic world, it is not a hero or Superman, but the presence of ordinary, good-hearted people. In the movie, Frances McDormand embodies this role.

The world contains terrifying evil. Ordinary people, due to a casual trigger, are dragged into the world of that evil. Experiencing a fear as if the everyday world is collapsing, it is the kind and simple-hearted individuals who redeem that crumbling world.

"Fargo" masterfully illustrates this, and I believe this structure is firmly passed down to the Fargo series.
