Crimson Peak was a magical piece of Gothic fiction film. Β I'm very sad it didn't win nearly the attention it deserved, regardless if three superstar actors were heading the cast or not.

I've only seen it once, but I know that 12 year old me would be as excited to see it as 22 year old me was when it came out. Β That's right, while other girls my age were reading tween/teen magazines like People, Star, teen Vogue, and Glamour, I was a fan of Gothic short stories and novels. Β Heck, in a recent English elective class at my high school alma mater, a rather progressive teacher took her students to see it back when it was in theaters in 2015.

When I went back for my 5th high school reunion, I met the Gothic literature teacher in person and found out about her "field trip to Crimson Peak" from the source. Β I started with Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, poetry and short stories from Poe, and paranormal/mystery manga in my early teens, and it blossomed into a full on "love affair" with early 19th century literature, especially the Romantics.
