Squat terminators (Eggs with legs!)
Though I haven't figured out how to field this squad in the current rules yet, they are just too awesome not to paint and show off.

Are these guys for real? I mean, I've heard about the old Squat line being kind of space-dwarf-bikers, but I never knew it had something this awesome in it.

Yes, these are genuine Citadel squat terminators.

They had bikes, they had terminators and they even had terminators on bikes (well trikes).

Such a shame. It would be awesome to see them make a come-back some day, and give newbies like me a chance to paint some space-dwarfs.

I use the standard squats as Imperial Guard. It's raised a few eyebrows at my regular Games Workshop store from other customers, some of whom are not as old as the figures.

Wow!!!! These just take me back.

I guess Squats work well as IG. Get yourself some marine and specifically 'terminator' allies and I suppose you're good to go. As an alternative, make basic squats scouts (I'll get you the bikes, that I know you really want, as well as bolters) and just go for these as an elites terminator choice. You might want to create inset bases for play though, or rebase them.

As an alternative you could use the Chaos marine list, fielding the basic squats as cultists, but that seems off to me, more something to do for 40K Skaven.

Yes, the idea of allies did spring to mind. I was actually considering using the Grey Knights codex. That way the terminators are my troops choice, I can hopefully convert a squat inquisitor and my bolter armed squats can be henchmen. Of course bolter armed squats could also fill in as marine scouts.

I used the chaos marine list for my chaos squats. Images of my 1500 point force, including a squat daemon prince,Β are up in my gallery.

I would say regular SM work better as you also get your (scout)bikes (that's something I recall from the 40K Compendium Squat list, lots of bikes, trikes and other motorized material). It all depends on your army set-up though. Grey Knights seems a bit heavy on the psychics for Squats. Dark Angels might work better.

Just don't forget about your Commisar advisor (he's not allowed to shoot anybody) and your Tech Priest (great additions to that army list).

Yes, the psychic issue was putting me off somewhat. But the advantage was that it was easier to see the bladed weapons as nemesis weapons rather than powerfists. Not an issue for the chaos equivalent with chainfists anyway.

Given that I'm using Codex: Imperial Guard for the bulk of my squats my commissars (guild master figures) will carry out field executions.

For tech priests I have a pair of the White Dwarf subscriber model from a couple of years back. These work better than the actual squat tech priest, though I do have 4 of them as well as 5 servitors. I need them to keep my leman russes and sentinels running.

I'm using AM robots as Dreadknights myself, so who am I to tell you off. Whatever works for you and you can get your opponent to agree on.Β

There is some company that may promote a different opinion about stuff like that, but they should be happy we still buy their products and stop acting like they own the hobby.

Ooooh, YES I remember these guys! They're incredibly old, how long have you had them?

StephenJD In reply to Arianod [2014-02-03 13:04:51 +0000 UTC]

Three of them I've had since the late 1980's when they were first released. The other two I obtained about a year ago.

I also have a squad of ten of the chaos version.

Exo armor I believe, boltguns and power axes .Β  A blast from the past.

Correct, exo armour was a term applied to terminator armour in the days of Rogue Trader. 'EXO' appears on the tab of some of the early space marine terminator models.

No. These are genuine Games Workshop squats, not Mantic forgefathers.
