Oh, no. Sans' fear that everything is meaningless is spreading to Alphys! There's a reason why he doesn't tend to share his knowledge about the time loops.Speaking of Alphys, I'm trying out a new way of drawing her from the front.
When viewed from the front, her overworld sprite makes it look like her head spikes are bent sideways, and I've been going with that in previous pages. But it just didn't look right to me; it made it look like someone took bites out of her head, and when viewed from the side, her spikes didn't look bent.
So now I'm trying to draw her as if her spikes protrude straight toward the back of her head, as opposed to angling sideways. I'm not 100% sure about this new look; I might have to tinker with it.

Poor Alphys, victim of what ifs even more then ever. She could highfive with Hamlet. The hopeless picture she painted in her head is heartbreaking and I love the line abou giving up even more than Sans. So poignant. Like, really nice, hat off. Undyne figure is absolutely brilliant idea too.
I miss sideways spikes a bit, but it looks pretty. Perhaps that tinkering will make it ideal.

Yeah, her behavior during her date makes it clear that she tends to build up situations in her head that are worse than what's actually likely to happen. Of course, this tendency is amplified in cases where she's speculating about how people will see her, since she sees herself in such a dim light, but even without that predisposal to expect rejection, the genocide route doesn't exactly inspire optimism about any area of life.
She could high five with Hamlet, but... what if Hamlet doesn't WANT a high five from someone like her? D:
I am happy with the extra layer of emotional tension the action figures give. A constant reminder of what's at stake, on a level far more personal than the end of the world. Sans still has Plastic Papyrus in his pocket.

You now, this is actually very interesting. How many people walk around with plastic figures of family, friends and/or love interests? We carry around toysof fictional characters or perhaps real life idols and even that applies more to children, than adults. Did they get the idea from something that Alphys found, like those anime? Or it could be tied to Roman style shrines and figures of family, be they alive or deceased. Or something else. This is such an interesting little cultural detail!

For me, the idea of the Papyrus and Undyne action figures was inspired by a combination of Papyrus' action figure collection, his friendship with Undyne, and his massive ego. I could totally see Sans getting a couple action figures custom-made so his brother could perform his theoretical battle scenarios with actual likenesses of himself and his captain.
Though, considering how popular Undyne is in the Underground, it wouldn't surprise me if there were already figures of her in stores, and Papyrus was the only one who had to be custom-made, haha.
There's also the fact that, in the runs where Papyrus is killed, a present addressed to him disappears from under the tree. In Just Cause, the box with the action figures was that present.
