Impact

Hello,
Nice shot you got here unfortunatly there are a few elements that reduce it's impact and take away from it's quality. First of all the framing.the man should follow the rule of thirds and be sitting at bottom left hand corner intersection thus giving a much more marked sensation of stillness of the subject and tranquillity as he contemplates whatever it is what he is looking at. The second element is a question of exposure - you gamma should be 0.05/0.1 point darker (easy correction on PS) - a pity the picture came with a bit of micro-skaking (not too noticeable but costed a bit of points on the tecnique since with a 1/10 of a second in a picture liek this there should be no micro-shaking.

The idea was quite good and title expresse it very well, yet unfortunatly the tecnique mistakes take a lot away from the final result.

Hope this is useful,
Good shooting to you,

I think Nicola raises some interesting points. At 1/10, the picture seems amazingly sharp to me. If there are unsharp parts in the picture, it could be due to the shallow DoF, and if so, well, if you shoot in museums, something's got to give, and as long as the main subject is sharp, I wouldn't worry too much.

I wonder if there would have been less noise in the picture if the picture hadn't been converted to BW, or if that could be helped by a conversion in a different way (via Lab color?). These details however, don't detract much from the quality of the subject and the framing. It got a lot of positive feedback, and rightly so, I think.

agree, I really do not see the point in just mindlessly bashing a picture without explaining the reasons behind it - I prefer explaining the mistakes I see so the photographer can correct them in the future and takle better pictures
