The bone is Giraffe, and all the wire is lacquer coated to stop it discolouring.

I know that feeling  Finding a market that is willing to spend money is always an interesting challenge!

It's so bad when you finally get someone interested and then they start trying to bargaind own from what you already think is a very low price, and they get offended when you won't accept it.  Nobody seems willing to pay anything like what the price should be if you took into account all the hours spent making things, they just say they could get something online for much cheaper.

Oh, I know this frustration!!!  Real clients are out there, just keep trying.  There's nothing wrong with setting a reasonable price for your work

Oh I know .. the hardest thing is knowing what the reasonable price is ... materials plus a margin gives you a price, but for something like this with probably 8-10 hours of work you can't charge the hours at anything like minimum wage or you're looking at prices in the hundreds of $ .....   Just as a matter of interest, as I know there are plenty of artists, crafters, and probably just interested others .. if you saw this for sale in a store, not a market but in a glass case, what would you be prepared to pay ?

I feel like I've seen similar types of items (in terms of materials at least) in higher end shops for $150-200US.  I don't know much about the material/labor costs for something like this, so I don't know if that's reasonable or not.  I think most of the selling artists I know are making their money in stores, as opposed to the internet.  It seems like platforms like etsy have driven the availability of items up so high that people can legitimately say "oh but I can get it cheaper", whereas people who are in brick stores are more inclined to purchase what's available.

thanks .... that's the feeling I'm getting, we even sell at some of the local art markets and even there the prices are pushed way down because people treat 'arts/crafts' as 'cheap' if it's not sold in a permanent gallery.  I have sold items along this line for up to $100US  but it's hard work and very low volume.  etsy appears to have turned into somewhere that crafters go to see new stuff and then go do it themselves.

It's an interesting discussion .. how 'professional' do you have to appear to get treated as anything but a 'crafter' ... because there seems to be a gap between 'Art' and 'Craft' in the public perception for price.
