Description
So, at Magic the Gathering tournaments, and at conventions players attend, a common request is to sketch a little something on a playmat.Over time, they got more elaborate, and now they're to the point of being basically paintings, only more difficult, because it's marker on fabric. Which I've found to be the most unforgiving medium so far. And that includes shaving and tattooing wild gorillas.
At Gen Con last year, I basically told everyone they could leave their playmat with me, along with a bribe, and I'd sketch up their mats and ship them home. Between me and a few folks helping me run my booth, we lost track of how many we'd promised to do. I went home with hundreds. Each requiring several hours of work. Suffice it to say, many people waited a very, very long time for their mats, and I decided I needed to rethink how I'm going to do my playmat fanservice. And that I should try to convince Copic to sponsor me.
This is just one that I thought turned out kinda nice. Chandra powering up.

So hard to put marker onto a playmat and try and draw something nice out of it :/ Unfortunately for me I tried to draw something on a playmat with letraset pens...

I think knowing what the medium is elevates this from a "you tha's nice" drawing, to a "DAAAAAMN!" drawing..

Ya know I see plenty of artist playmats being sold in Coolstuffinc.com and some copies are being signed by artists as well like Don Dos Santos for instance. If you made these playmats I'd totally buy one...maybe if you autograph my copy too... c: /cuteface

You need to convince Wizards to mass produce these, although the hand-drawn playmats have more sentimental value.
I don't play competitively anymore but I'm totally going to the next event near me that you attend just for a playmat.

Wild Gorillas can be tough customers but give them some fruit and getting that ink done isn't much of a problem. Fabric and markers cannot be bribed. Looks awesome, and it is just a downright nice service to perform.
