Dante is a white haired half-human, half-demon badass from the successful action video game series Devil May Cry.Spyro is a small purple dragon from the successful platforming games Spyro. The music was composed by Stewart Copeland.
But do these two characters have in common?
They were back-stabbed by their publishers, developers and right-holders with horrible reboots.
Devil May Cry redefine action games with it's stylish hack and slash gameplay. Dante was one the coolest characters in a video game. He laughs at the face and danger he loves killing demons. One of the few video game characters that gain both fanboys and fangirls.
But sadly the next game DmC, by Ninja Theory, was a complete departure with dirty settings, slow-looking combat so far and worst of all an ugly pathetic git who is supposed to be Dante. (O_O)
Blame Keiji Inafune for this. He wants games to be bland.
The first three Spyro games for the original Sony Playstation, that were created by Insomniac Games, were and still is considered possibly the best platformers that rival to Mario.
Sadly Insonmiac Games left Universal Interactive/Vivendi/Sierra/whatever to make the Ratchet & Clanks games on the PS2. Spyro began to suffer a major decline with the god-awful Enter the Dragonfly.
A Hero's Tail was an improvement but there was too many changes which it an equal betrayal to the original formula. They then decided to reboot the franchise into the Legend of Spyro which was crap. Spyro looks like a doop (or derp) head and who the fuck is Cynder-bitch?
Activision currently holds right the franchise (along with Crash) but we never see over beloved Sony mascot ever again... (T_T)
While the Devil May Cry is officially raped, Spyro has been sucking for nearly a decade and it will continue to under the thumb of Bobby Kotick.

Nah. Skylanders knew to be more kid-friendly, which Spyro really is but adults can enjoy it too 'cus the real world is miserable and we need to laugh. None of that teen-pandering, OC-inspired, "tribute" videos with Evanescence or Linkin Park music on YouTube, please. I laugh at people who like that stuff and go on with their teen angst. Ha ha ha.

Also I'm sick of people hating the new Dante just cause of his look. I agree he's not a good character, but I'm one of the few people that actually see WHY this one isn't a good Dante, and not just "He doesn't have white hair hurr durr" >_<

It's not just mere hair colour. We live in a time with the most popular games are gritty, brown/grey/black, main characters have shaved heads or are bald, and eveyone is overly serious. Devil May Cry easily stood out from the rest with it's campiness, it's fast-paced, custom combo combat at 60fps, it's awesome music, the gothic architecture and it's garish and over-the-top hero, whose name is Dante. Kinda like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
With DmC, it's as if that game wants to be like everyone else, blending with the rest, thus, indistinguishable. It trades it's Divine Comedy references with preachy subliminal messages with corporations controlling people through debt, not-so-subtle exposition complete with graffiti paints, forcing the player to use specific weapons (fight red with red, fight blue with blue). But of all, I rather Dante when he's Dante, not when he's trying to be like Nathan Drake. Not every franchise needs some gritty reboot to still be relevant.
What's worse, Capcom might very well abandon the Devil May Cry series altogether, either indecisive on what to do next or thinks games like it don't sell anymore, just like with Onimusha and Mega Man. Even Ninja Theory is making more actions games right now with Hellblade and combat for Disney Infinity 2.0 while PlatinumGames is working on games like crazy. The only things Capcom cares about now is Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Deep Down compared when they worked on Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, Breath of Fire, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, School Rivals, the other games I mentioned and much much more.

capcon is talking about continuing the classic devil may cry serise by making five so looks like a game company finally learned reboots are not the way to go. So your coming back to us old dante.

I hope so too but let's just say IF DmC 2 was gonna happen (with or without Ninja Theory), I hope at least for it be more light-hearted or even Dante gets split into two different Dantes, one is was how NT intended with the 2010 trailer and the other is like the Dante from DMC3 was everyone can be happy because there are those who love the reboot, if not two separate titles, then maybe something similar DMC4 minus the backtracking.

I was thinking more like Metroidvania-style exploration with wall-traveling like A Link to the Past but it all probably lag combined with high-resolution graphics, scenery porn, overall combat, animation-canceling, etc. while all having to run at 60fps.

No, no, no. I don't want one to be made, I rather if they just got the guys behind Kill la Kill to make one than that awful Screen Gems studio, the ones behind dull, Twilight-esque action-flicks like Resident Evil and Underworld, in which case the characters act all serious around dull dark sewers and act all boring. That would actually be a million times worse than DmC.

The very fact they were even added (along with Dante and Lady in Project X Zone) has me yearn for a new Devil May Cry game 'cus Dante's is as iconic as Mario, Sonic, etc. If the AAA industry and critics don't him seriously and complain that the character isn't anything seriously, then they're clearly missing the point about Dante even though Bayonetta is practically the same in terms of being silly, campy and fun.

Spyro The Dragon it would appear has it a lot worse than Dante since he is under Activision's control. But yeah it is disheartening to see two franchises go down the toilet. Dante can rest assure that his series won't be utterly ruined anymore not unless Capcom wants to go bankrupt even faster.

I hope Sony buys rights to DMC so Santa Monica Studios could do the series justice or maybe Sony can collaborate with PlatinumGames to make a new DMC as a PS4-exclusive.
There's also word on a new trademark call Devil May Cry Ultimate for PS4 and Xbox One. This could mean a collection of all five games, a whole new game or just DmC is getting a new port.

That sounds like a very bad idea. I don't want to see Devil May Cry morph into God Of War. Outside of Platinum Games I cannot think of any video game studio who would be capable of delivering a solid game for the DMC series.
I read about it from the PS3 DmC fourm over at Gamefaqs. That sounds like a stupid rumor. I don't see the point of porting it over to the next generation consoles. There was not exactly that much DLC for the game and the few people who enjoy such a terrible game already have it. Capcom should be porting over superior and excellent titles not crap like this.
Hell they were giving it away for free for PSN+ members.
DMC HD collection is already out and a person can get the fourth game for under $10 used by now.

Sonic was always a cartoon character. Sonic Boom reminds me of the old cartoon (the one with Long John Baldry as Robotnik), Ratchet & Clank and Skylanders, which is WAY better than Legend of Spyro because LoS took itself too seriously despite revolving around a small purple dragon, sorta like how Sonic 06 tries to be Final Fantasy with blue hedgehog.
But hey, it's safe to say Sega completely distanced themselves away from Shadow and Sonic 06.

I like how the game looks like it's actually made for kids and trying to be all dark and edgy like Shadow the Hedgehog, Legend of of Spyro or DmC.
The game itself looks fun.

That still doesn't make feel better. I think we'll end up getting a DmC2 instead of the classic campy Devil May Cry back.
As for Spyro. I'm still annoyed Spyro hasn't had a decent game in a while but Skylanders isn't a Spyro game but has Spyro in it yet I had fun with it. Maybe I just did because I wanted something lighter and more upbeat in my life (MLP:FiM too) in a time when dark, gritty, realistic games are the trend.
Am I gonna buy a new Skylanders game evey year? No, plus I still have to beat Giants anyway. I don't suck at it, I just put it off for a good while.
