Me to! Unfortunatly, over here in the Netherlands there are to many rules and regulations for custom motorbikes.
Bicycles have few rules, so I'll stick to that.

Well done, it looks beautiful.

This is something I may try myself in the future. I to like wood and bikes, just never thought of combining the two.

About how long did it take to complete this project of yours?
I take it that you used some of the metal frame of the doner bike, for the some of the Top & Down tube and for the Head tube. Did you also use some of the rear triangle and seat tube, so that you wouldn't have to stress the wood for tightening the rear wheel or the seat post?
I'm glad that you decided to keep the bike frame a natural color, I would consider painting it almost a crime.

Thank you. To answer your questions:
It took me about 2 months, working on weekends and evenings.
You're right, I used some of the metal frame, but only about 12cm of the donor frame goes inside the plywood. I used the head tube, crank shaft, the part of the rear triangle that holds the brake, the seat tube and the dropout plates that holds the rear wheel.
I've posted some WIP pictures. They are in my "Homemade project" folder. One of the pictures has a bit more information about the build.
If you do try it sometime in the future, and you need some questions answered, feel free to ask.

That's crazy. It is as strong as aluminum? And how heavy is it?

steven6773 In reply to wagn18 [2012-05-07 14:16:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
Next to the question:"is that real wood?" the question about it's strenght and weight are the most common. It is strong enough, in fact, it might even be over-dimensioned. If you compare it to a wooden chair, it is.
The weight is about the same as a metal equivalent. It's heavy, but easy to lift up without efford.

Awesome. Thanks for answering my questions. You don't happen to have any photos of yourself making this do you? I looks like a really interesting project and something I'd like to try some day.

I mainly mountain bike and will stick with steel and aluminum for that, but making a cruiser like this would be really fun.

Cool. Thank you for sharing.

(And no, I don't know why they wouldn't all submit. I'm only kind of good with figuring out this site sometimes)

You're welcome.

(I found out you can upload multiple pictures, but you have to submit them one by one.)

If you are going to make your own plywood bike, please post WIP pictures while building. And ofcourse, the end result

Will do. If I ever end up making one it will be down the road. Right now I'm in the middle of building a new house and moving. I won't have time for projects for months.

But it is definitely something I want to try eventually!
