A street shot of Shinjuku, Tokyo.I merged two photos to create a sort of HDR image, but the background buildings don't look very good.

hmm, what are you using to make HDR? Photoshop kinda sucks unless you really know how to tweak things.
I cam across an awesome app the other day for HDR. Not sure if there's a windows version though. Try a search for Photomatix (Pro)

Just used Photoshop and did it manually - I rushed that picture in 5 mins, which is why the buildings look crappy.
