Well, technically whenever you make something, it's automatically copyrighted by law!
You don't have to take the extra step if you don't want to, but you can for kicks and giggles.
It's through the Library of Congress, and there's a $35 application fee (or that's what it was when I did it) and a few forms you have to fill out.
Send it in to the address provided, and they'll get back to you in 6 months or so.
I think they might've actually updated to an electronic system, but I'd be wary of that as their website has an apology for their system being down. You can check it out if you want to.
