Description aha! a spark!
after loosening up with something I could handle on my own (an abstract painting), my muse has chosen to grace me with the inspiration to complete this.

made for the character tag team over on unit 16.

Aye. She can be a bit moody when she's falling

what? how so?

if just doesn't fit her too well. she's all prim and proper, her dresses are surprisingly neat even when falling, and suddenly her hair is going in all sorts of random directions

hmm. Isn't hair more volatile in the wind than cloth is? How would you portray it?

Turchenko In reply to sticmann [2009-03-29 05:50:48 +0000 UTC]

if it was meant to be long, i'd make it a lot straighter, pointing straight up, with some wiggle to it

if it was short, like shoulder-length, i'd exxagerate it by making it look like a parachute of hair, you know what i'm saying?

yes. In the original concept, the hair is long. I see what you're saying. I appreciate the input.

Agreed. When are you going to put together multiple pics to tell us a story then...eh....eh??

I should. I have something planned for April, so perhaps after that

I'd like to get your opinion on the point Turchenko brought up about this picture.

Cool...will have to wait for it then...
I think I see what Turchenko is getting at, I think it relates to the fact that it does look like her hair is the only thing affected by the fall. At first glance it doesn't look like she's falling until you see there's nothing under her feet. I think the contrast is exaggerated since the hair looks flatter than the rest of the girl as well. (though this is stylistic...and I quite like it). I think the idea you're going for with her not moving (which makes it pretty funny) is cool, but I guess her dress would still move. Perhaps a few small ripples up the sides on the outer layer would help accentuate the sense of movement and bring the contrast closer together?

Her dress is affected though. It's poofed out all Alice-like and she's floating down. I do see that she and her hair have taken up two different styles and I had not really thought that out when I painted it. I guess I just think it makes it more fun to look at even if the physics are off.

As I said I do quite like the two different styles together, I think it makes it interesting to look at, especially how her head is enveloped by the hair.
Yes I did notice that it was poofed out, absolutely, but if I was to nitpick then I would say that some secondary motion would make it more obvious I guess. It depends I suppose how much of an impression you want her downwards motion to make.

I probably overstepped my spanish threshold. I'm still learning. I know things like, "Donde esta mis llaves?" or "hay ocho sillas"
I did pick up "work" though.
