Description
This young witch found an old spellbook that was written in an ancient language. She had studied the language for some time and while not entirely fluent, she knew more than the average person. She was able to read the title of the first spell, "Stone Transformation", as well as all of the instructions for performing it. She couldn't quite make out the paragraph beneath the instructions, but she figured it was unnecessary.

As it turns out, the spellbook was only meant to be used by a specific ancient tribe who purposely included a decoy first spell. Those from outside the tribe would understand enough of the language to figure out how to perform the incantation, but wouldn't know the tribe's dialect enough to realize the final paragraph is a warning that the spell attacks the user.

Of course, none of this was on the young witch's mind as her body quickly turned to stone. She never knew exactly why the spell had gone wrong, and it doesn't appear she'll be learning the reason any time soon.

I decided to try my hand at more complex shading this time, and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.
