Auberon // 16 // nonbinary // pansexual
very curious, distant, creative, thoughtful, intelligent, sentimental

Auberon was born to a loving home. They were always different than their siblings, spending lots of time reading astrology books and staring at the night sky. When they came out as nonbinary, they were accepted by their family and they chose the name Auberon after a moon. Life was going pretty well for them - school was going fine, even though they had no friends (they preferred it that way.) They just felt... like their brain was somewhere else. They felt lonely, but they just didn't know why.
One day, they started to feel really distant and sick during class. They asked to go to the nurse but instead wandered the halls until they went to the basement, feeling almost drawn to it. Their head pounded as they stumbled over to a back shelf, where they saw a strange crystal. It was glowing and pulsating, making them feel worse. They collapsed to the ground....
...and when they next woke up they couldn't breathe. They couldn't see anything around them at all - where were they? Suddenly, their breathing and vision were restored, and they realized they were in space, among the same moons and planets they had always admired. Or were they? These planets were light blue and pale purple, striped with different colors. Some had crystals as big as moons branching off them. Auberon marvelled at the gorgeous sights until they felt a tap on their shoulder.
They whirled around to find a being - was it a dog? was it a dragon? was it even anything at all? - made of, or so it seemed, stars. "Hello," the star-thing said calmly to an awestruck Auberon.
    "H.. hello," they replied.
"It seems you have been found by my crystal. It has been a long time since anyone has spoken to me."
"What do you mean?" Auberon asked, unable to contain their curiosity.
"Once in a trillion years, that crystal you saw chooses someone to speak with me. It decays over time, and the chosen animal is the one who will help me repair it. It is a simple task, really. It only requires simple star-dust to mend, but I myself cannot mend it. It requires a... mortal to help me. I must train you in my ways beforehand, I am afraid. Would you like to join me?" the creature explained.
"I... why did it have to take me all the way here? I mean, yes, but do I get to go home?" Auberon anxiously stammered.
"I have no control over who the crystal chooses. I can send you home now if you so wish, but as my crystal is decaying I do require an apprentice. If it decays fully.. well... I'm afraid there will be no home to return to. Once the task is done, you may return home. It may take many, many Earth years."
"Then.. yes," Auberon finally stated, feeling very mortal floating there in the air, "I will."
The creature began to train Auberon in its ways, teaching them how to collect stardust and spin it into the silk that makes shooting stars. It taught them how to leap from planet to planet without the long fly in between. It taught them to visit nebulas to harvest stars for their galaxy when it was in need. Auberon felt complete. Auberon felt the way they had always wanted to feel, like they belonged.
Soon, the crystal had been repaired. The creature sadly explained to Auberon - for both had grown attached - that it was time to leave. Auberon, crestfallen, said their goodbye, and they were sent back to Earth, where no time had even passed. They were still in the basement, the light still falling from a small rectangular window, this time onto an empty shelf. They briefly wondered if it had all been a dream, but when they looked at their paws, they knew it hadn't been. Their legs were covered in little constellations that twinkled faintly.

that was interesting and i am for sure making art of it
