Description

...but the King had begun to age, his beard had whitened and he had no longer the same power as when he was young...

This is my first essay of the King. It's a detail from a bigger synthesis just to see how the lines work and refine the style of the artwork. What you see is the very beggining of my attempt to create a handmade book of a fairytale, there's a story I wrote and now I'm at the stage of illustration. There are many more to come and I really hope you like this one! Enjoy!

This is one of the best piece of this technique I've seen around here! I like how you've created a contrast image, the thing I (and many others) would fear to try c: I am now highly interested in the story you wrote... Will it be available for a purchase/online?

Thank you so much for your comment and dWatch! And it's even better when it comes from an artist from Poland! The story is about a King how has two kids and finds a baby in the woods protected by a female deer. Later on the King gets sick and an army threatens his kingdom so his two sons decides to go and find the Romfea of Dawn (it's a kind of sword) and the Herb of Therapon to help them fight the army and save the King from his sickness. And so the story goes with many adventures they have on their way to fulfil their quests. It's a kind of a traditional Balkan fairytale. The book will be fully hand made, the illustrations and the decoratives are wood cuts, hand type setting and book binding and the text is written in Greek. So the first copies of the handmade books won't be many and they're gonna be collectibles. Maybe, if some publishers are interested of the book there'll be a mass production, but this I don't know yet. In any way the handmade books will be for sale so if you're still interesting we'll talk about it when it will be finished!

P.S. I realy, realy absolutely love the "Lost Town of Switez" animation! Have you seen it?

Absolutely not at all! And thank you for watching me back, it's greatly appreciated! ^^

Wow, that sounds excellent! The story has a wonderful, classical feel - I am a huge admirer of such tales of quest, they are always immortal in a way... Ah, if I were a publisher, I'd make it a real thing right away! The amount of work and its quality makes me long for actually reading it so much that I won't lie I express some sort of physical ache, wow. Also, as I've recently started learning Ancient Greek (and researching the modern version of your language), I imagine it to sound and look really interesting (what can I say, your alphabet is so beautiful). And so, I believe that we indeed will talk about it when the time comes :3

Ah, yes, I've seen the film (I was lucky to catch it on TV just a few day ago)! I really loved the choice of music - it corresponds with the images really well (what can I say, I have a thing for choirs). As it's based on a piece written by Adam Mickiewicz (one of our most famous poets), I have read the poem as a school assignment and well, it wasn't nearly as interesting as the vision of the director of the animation c: Also, its movie poster is a masterpiece. And BTW, as we are talking about Polish animations - have you ever came across Piotr Dumala's work? He has a unique technique of scratching pictures directly into the coloured plaster, as it could be seen in his Crime and Punishment ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLy2OO…  )

Wow, great film! I didn't knew it! Thank you! I've seen Lost Town of Switez at a animation workshop and fell in love! My girlfriend get it for me as a gift!

How nice of you learning Ancient Greek! I suppose that is very dificult to learn! Can you quote something or it's very soon for that?

Have a happy new year btw!

Glad you like it! c:

It was a bit cumbersome at the beginning, especially with all the accents and pronunciation; when it comes to grammar, the textbook I'm using was written with those you have a basic knowledge of Latin (there are many comparisons), but hopefully, I study it in my high school and that was indeed pretty helpful! And as I mentioned the textbook - my group (well, two people in total) reads some basic stories about the culture or 'common errands of an Ancient Greek person' and I called them, but our teacher gave us some γνώμη (which I believe could be translated into 'a saying of wisdom'?) and one of my favourite was Ο λύκος σαν γεράσει, μασκαράς των σκυλιών γίνεται, it's just so poetic c:

hahaha! very good! yes, γνώμη  is also opinion! γνωμικό is maybe the best word for"saying something wise" and maybe the root of Gnomes!
