Not necessarily. I like drawing characters in a manner that makes them appear more independent-minded, that way anyone can interpret their behavior in anyway they see fit (even me). The "poker face" is the prize expression for this style, because it can both provide humor and allow the viewer to see it in whatever way they want (uncomfortable, beyond irritated, secretly likes it, etc).
