Description This was my birthday gift for my husband this year. We've been on a Hammer Horror marathon since last month and I've been enjoying the hell out of these films.

He requested something depicting Peter Cushing as Van Helsing from The Brides of Dracula (1960) and Yvonne Romain from Curse of the Werewolf (1961), hence the title of the piece.

I'm on a huge Peter Cushing kick right now-- he's such a phenomenal actor. He is my Van Helsing. I wish all Van Helsings were as badass as he is in The Brides of Dracula.

Anyway, it was a challenge painting this piece. I haven't used openCanvas since the Jenna painting from 2006. But it was a lot of fun. I'll probably do some more painted pieces in future

Peter's VH kicks ass! He is the best Van Helsing, he really captured the perfect balance between cold scientist and kickass vampire hunter. I think I need to pay a visit to your gallery, these pics are awesome! FAVE

Really nice!
Ya, i've love Hammer films since i was a kid.
My friends and i saw every film in the theatre or drive-in that came out, and back in the early 80's when video machines were first introduced i'd buy Hammer videos from guys in magazine ads who'd tape them off some late, nite TV station (including the station call letter), and my friends and i would be in heaven.
It was expensive but fun trying to find everything i could, and trading with friends, but lots of good films weren't released till the last 10 years.
Of course today i transfered all my rare videos to DVD, and bought everything i was missing on DVD, and still watch them over and over.
Anything with Cushing , Lee, Barbara Steel, or Vincent Price is a must have.
I remember Back in 1968 my sisters, and girlfriend, screaming during "the Conqueror Worm", and saying it was the scariest movie ever.

So THIS is the piece you were talking about!!! OMG... *drools* Ick, look what I've done to my keyboard. I've seen Peter Cushing in a number of other things, (although no Hammer movies, shockingly,) and I just adore him. Amazing, amazing work you've done here; I love the intense look on his face.

What a wonderful birthday present! I hope he liked it!

Yep! I should've had it finished a couple weeks ago, but I'm still getting the hang of openCanvas... Hopefully I'll get faster as I go

And omg, you must see Peter Cushing in some of these Hammer films! He is fantastic!

Better as you go? ORLY? What other masterpieces of fannish delight do you have in store for us? *HINT BIG HINT* I am totally innocent.

And I'll get right on the Peter Cushing-watching... just as soon as I get off my cheap British scifi kick.

I've watched my share of Hammer films, but not "Bride". But I'd recognize that look anywhere. Those beehives and tacky costumes, haha! Great work, and I love how you did Cushing.

Thank you very much!

I think Brides may be my favorite Hammer film... or at least one of my top favorites. It was only just released on DVD recently, I think. Before that we had to resort to buying a very expensive out of print VHS copy. It is well worth watching, though!

Dude I had no idea you already finished this! And it looks awesome! (I'm glad you didn't stoop to using lensflare on the lantern lol) You really know how to use that opencanvas!
And you're right, looking at some of the other Van Helsings in cinema, Peter's totally owns them all.

Thanks, man! And yes... I couldn't resort to using the lens flare. That's S4 territory!

Ahaha Yeah, I mean you'd have to draw S4 Avon with all those studs to be able to use the lensflare
