Mini Theatrhythm-Cecil showing off his musical skills, while mini-Kain shows off, er, his own musical skill. He just isn't too happy having his Cecil taken away from him.
With the exception of the exclamation mark, mini-Kain is actually popping out music-related symbols. They still look like curse words, no? :3

Yeah, unlocking Kain was probably the most annoying part of the game.
Not only did I play a single dark note 30+ times to collect my 8 navy shards, I ended up getting 8 black shards first (thus unlocking Sephiroth). ><"

Well, I have to play trough all my notes to FIND some enemy with navy shards and then defeat him 30 times 8D
but I know what you mean. when I wanted to unlock Rydia, I unlocked 2 characters before I got her o.o" this game knows how to troll itΒ΄s players...
