I don't know for sure, she was found on a side-walk as a kitten by a friend of mine who runs a cat shelter/temporary home. There was no sight of the rest of the litter or her mum.

She was probably either hurt by someone or hit by a car, with her skull crushed, jaw cracked in multiple places and both eyes damaged (it's unclear if that was from the accident or from an earlier infection as she had a parvovirus as well - which is common for feral cats and can cause eye infections).

Friend took her to the vet who managed to patch her up, but there was no saving one of the eyes.

I was supposed to provide a temporary home (as she couldn't be among other cats until her parvo cleared) for her until she gets better and a forever home can be found, but by the time she got on her feet it was clear it's not happening and she stays for good.

Until I read the text, I though she was winking. This is a pretty picture of her. My doggy friend is missing the tops of her ears.

The vet did a pretty good job, considering he was saving her life and aesthetics is usually not the first concern in situations like these.

When I was a kid my neighbour had a dog that was missing an entire side of his face, when he was a puppy he got stuck in a tunnel (he dug because he was so desperate to chase the cars on the street next to our house) under a wire fence and literally scalped himself trying to get out. It was freaky, but he was also the sweetest, cutest dog I've ever met.

Something about damaged pets make us love them even more.

It's a she.

And I'm probably wearing the same rose coloured glasses that people do when they look at their children, but I don't care her jaw is crooked, she's missing an eye and her favourite scratching post is whatever new furniture I happen to buy - she is perfect and I love her.
