Description The Goblin was designed as medium tank with a squad of infantry as support.
Armed with a large pulse laser a SRM 6 and two machine guns - there are countless variants of the Goblin tank.

I started the design after some discussion at bg.battletech.com about troop space in BattleTech vehicles.
I used the great work of Mathew Plog  and the T-15 Armata IFV as inspiration - for size and general look.
I have not yet decided to either use - ICE, Fuel Cell or a fusion core for power generation. I know that the major part of the drive train will be located in the skirts.

This is the "modernized" version - but as usual I don't stick to close to the construction rules.
  • The "machine gun" is a 12.5mm Gatling with 50 rounds per shot.
  • The SRM - is a 139mm SALCOS missile (two have the weight of a classic SRM6 volley (~60kg)
  • The laser concists of an array of 9x 3.3cm laser, each emitts an energy of 250 kJ in a beam of 500µs. (beam power is 500MW)
  • Troop - 6-7 double either very cramped space for 14 soldiers without full battle gear or up to half the numbers with heavy equipment or even light battlearmor (PAL)
  • drive train - is 7 wheeled plus powered front and rear sprocket - the tread is rubber only.

Update
"modular" armor plates on the side skirts, casemate for front machine guns, laser moved to the back, infantry hatches, commander hatch,
started with the "reload able" missile launcher.

Question:
Considering the mission of a Goblin - I wonder if the LRM10 version is either used as a short range artillery support vehicle or should provide air cover and the LRMs are used as SAMs.

Very very very nice work!  Something tells me this would not be used as a modern IFV analogue.  It would instead be a battle taxi, the men would load up prior to going into battle, it would not move its men to the site of a fight, instead they would get their on a prime mover or a normal APC and then be moved into the Goblin to take part in the fight. Its too cramped to carry men in a comfortable way, unless you take the BMP approach where its a case of "Comfort? Whats that?"

The very first Goblin in the TRO 3026 was mentioned as medium tank, with the plus of an infantry compartment. When you look at its armor and a single main gun this makes some sense.
However infantry and tanks work well in unison so to have a MBT with troops at hand seems a practical solution.

So yes it will not be a nice ride and the troops will only be filled in the room when fighting is at hand. (This means I could even be able to reduce the size of the troop compartment even further. (Currently there is enough room for 12-14 soldiers)

This is also more true for the "Assault Goblin" - My name for the Kurita Version with the bigger troop space - I might follow some trope but when you think of Japanese Infantry you always have the picture of Banzai Bayonet charges. So think of the "Assault Goblin" as a landing craft on tracks. Heavy Machine Guns and missiles to weaken the fortifications prior to the charge.

So it was more like the Merkava Mk1 which had room in the back for a small infantry squad.  Makes sense

And if you're worried about IFV sizes don't look at the Indra or Svantovii from the Clans, the Indra is as long as a bendy bus but 'only' has 3 tons of cargo space for troops on board.  Whilst the Svan is a hovercraft that cna carry 5 tons worth of elementals!

I like the idea of an Assault Goblin, basically an LAV-25 from the sounds of it.
