Description I think I need to make a small correction...Not about Freddy Kruger's portret ( ), but the technique - it is actually a 'dry point' and not an 'etching'. Since this category was not quoted, I choose the one, which is the closest to it...Anyway, that's it

awsome drypoint! dry point is cool although I hate the part when you have to remove all the excess ink :/ did your hand hurt in all the procces of scraping your glass/acrylics plate?

Thank you! Yes, my head always hurts after I do such things...though I have made only two prints of this one...It was really a pain!

Why not? You can make amazing details with the 'needle'...Althought the printing is ....

jef88 In reply to strixxx [2006-11-25 12:28:58 +0000 UTC]

we had to make a choice between that and etching, painting or pencil drawing
and i took pencil drawing
but the needle is indeed better for detail than any pen could do

strixxx In reply to jef88 [2006-11-25 13:34:27 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think so...But aren't you alowed to try other techniques too during the course? Some of my colleagues, who where studying painting or sculpture for instance, have often visited us and have made some good printings as well by themselves

jef88 In reply to strixxx [2006-11-26 00:10:40 +0000 UTC]

yes i learned alot
(but it was done a few months ago )
now i'm doing graphical design and i like that alot

strixxx In reply to jef88 [2006-11-26 00:22:39 +0000 UTC]

I believe, the previous course helps a lot, no? It's a pity, but most of the graphical designers I know actually do not havy any 'art related' education...It's not neccessary of course, but I think it's better to have different points of view and in that case some sort of sense for composition, colour etc.

jef88 In reply to strixxx [2006-11-26 12:44:07 +0000 UTC]

we get edjucated in art if we want to be designers
we get classes in modern art, art history, composition, drawing technieks, even literature as base for designing.
which is good if you ask me

May I ask what is drypoint? Is it close to etching?
It's really brilliant!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

strixxx In reply to lipeiteoh [2006-11-24 16:07:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you The main difference is that to make an etching you use acid on the 'drawing' on the metal plate and then you print it, while to make a dry point you use a plastic transperent plate and just print it ( and that's why it is called 'dry' ). However it is pretty much the same, as the tool you draw with is the same as well ( a very sharp needle ). Moreover, you can also make a 'dry point' on a metal plate, e.c. without puting acid on it...I know, it sounds a bit complicated, but is really interesting...
