Prologue

In the skies over the Atlantic Ocean
It was a dark and stormy night as lightning surged across the clouds. The storm was deafening as black and white GUTS Wing One soared across the skies, in pursuit of a somehow cyberized version of the winged and clawed kaiju, Melba. The pilot fired the craft's Needle Laser guns at the creature's wings, attempting to force it down into the freezing waters below.

Cyber Melba screeched as its metal head crest opened up, unleashing a volley of missiles at the small GUTS Wing. With the missile alert blaring, the pilot deftly rolled and banked the GUTS Wing left to evade. The missiles circled back around, and the pilot put the craft into a rolling dive towards the ocean. He leveled out just a few feet from the water and accelerated, using the water plumes to confuse the missiles' tracking before sharply turning his nose up and blasting upwards. The missiles slammed against the water plumes as the night attack GUTS Wing left a supersonic wake in ascent.

The GUTS Wing pilot saw the cyborg flying kaiju through the clouds thanks to the lightning storm. However, the rain and lightning began to intensify. Thrusting the throttle forward, the pilot took his chances rocketing the GUTS Wing back into the stormy heavens above.

Cyber Melba noticed the intrepid little GUTS pursuer catch back up and spun on its back to unleash its eye beams. The GUTS Wing dodged the beams and fired back with the Needle Lasers. Both aircraft and monster exchanged fire as the rain and lightning raged all around them. The two enemies deftly wove around the arcs flashing between the clouds. The pilot also fought against wind as the turbulence, lightning flashes and rain pelting against the canopy threw off his HUD's gunsight.

Suddenly, bolts struck both the GUTS Wing One and Cyber Melba. The sparking GUTS Wing spun out of control and Cyber Melba gave out a pained electronic screech as the both of them fell through the thick clouds.

The GUTS Wing pilot remained calm even as warning tones and lights blared and displays glitched on the HUD and control panel. The aircraft jolted violently as it spun, but the pilot felt extra strength from a powerful essence in him. He held the flight stick steady as he tapped several switches for the controls. As the GUTS Wing was about to plunge toward the ocean, the systems rebooted. The pilot pulled up just in time, leveling the GUTS Wing to a steady five thousand feet above sea level. He scanned through his wet canopy with his electronic helmet visor for any signs of Cyber Melba... none. The pilot looked down at his radar, and it was clean. Cyber Melba had either plunged into the ocean, or vanished out of sight in the confusion of the night and storm.

"Lost target," the pilot muttered to himself. Switching the radar display to navigation mode, he began to scan for the nearest landmass to fly towards. The map expanded to the nearest country from his current position... France.

Seeing no hostile craft or creatures in sight, the pilot in his equally black and white GUTS pilot suit and helmet steered his aircraft towards the coast of France. As he did... he felt his prized possession warm itself in his suit. Opening his suit slightly, he pulled the object in question out and gazed upon it.

The pilot remembered it by its name... the Sparklence.
