The irony of mermaids is if you altered them enough to be biologically viable (adding necessary levels of body fat/blubber to maintain body heat in cold water) they would end up looking like... well... sea cows... (the literal sea cows, like dugongs). Which casts the debate about sea cows being the inspiration for mermaid sightings in an interesting light :-P

haha true. Just found it humorous that sceptics always say "mistaken identity" and believers (which has grown since Animal Planet's "documentaries"...) when in reality if mermaids did exist in a biological sense they would look just like the creature sceptics blame the most for mistaken identity, haha.
